Tell them if you wanted to spend that much, you'd be buying a BMW.    :o

Thats what I would do! :)

Jorge, are you a Costco member? A buddy of mine who lives in Hayward sent me a picture from the Costco in Union City and they had a Concours in there to advertize the Kawasaki Purchase program through Costco.  I have no idea how it works, but it would be worth looking into. Or, go for a drive to one of the dealers outside of SF. The Kawa dealer in Hayward is part of a small chain that includes Tracy and 3 other locations.

I am a Costco member, yes. Costco pricing, which is supposedly the best that they can do is $14,390. Out the door, $15,893.

Has Kawasaki changed their prices for 2012, and raised them significantly? It seems that for 2011 you could get a new Concours for $1000-$1500 less.

Regarding a BMW, you guys have a point. At the prices that these dealers are holding, a BMW is only $1500-$2000 more. And by the time that I farkle as I wish, the gap is even smaller!

Am I horribly mistaken on what these bikes sell for, or was this dealer trying to rip me off? For what it's worth, this was in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Thank You.

I bought from Cycle Gear in SF as well, my 2009 which I paid about 15.5 for which I was told was also too high back then. They have a large overhead and very high rent so they need to make as much money as they can. I doubt they will go down much below the $18,300, but maybe $17,500 out the door if you're lucky. I would suggest driving to Redwood City and San Jose to see if you can get a better deal. Or Tracy is always willing to wheel and deal to get your business, I highly recommend giving them a call and tell them your top dollar.

Geez...glad I live on the East Coast where prices are more realistic and the state's aren't completely gouging you for taxes.

I have an 08 with a stock seat, that I road over 7000 miles in three weeks, last Sept.. I use an AirHawk seat pad and never experienced anymore discomfort than, one could expect. I did a 1200 mile/24 hr. jaunt on the way home also, with no seat issue.
I would suggest using riding pants that eliminate seams, as I did find when I wore bluejeans, the seam running from front to back got a little annoying.

In other words, you used an AirHawk, not a stock seat. You used a stock seat AND and AirHawk, there is a difference. I did a couple 800 mile days with my stock seat before my Sargent was ready, I hated it. The Sargent and the Corbin both are much better. I have no opinion on other seats because I have not personally used them. The majority of my riding involves +750 mile days, and the stock seat alone would kill me.

Yes, I used a stock seat & an AirHawk and it's a great combo. Not only is it much less money, than buying an aftermarket seat, I use it on my other three bikes, in equal comfort at tons less money.

I can get a new 2012 Concours here locally for about $ 14,500 plus taxes and tag.  Currently there are no rebates on the 2012 models.

Sounds like a scam. 14K OTD new, in CA? That's about 12.5K plus taxes and prep. I'm sure the dealer pays more than that. Worth looking into though......

Unfortunately it wasn't a scam. I was the next one in line to buy that bike, I missed out.  :'(

TWO thumbs up for Cycle World of Cherry Hill.  When I was shopping for my 2010 they beat everyone by almost 1,500.  I did all the arrangements over the phone.  No problems with any aspect.  They are 100 miles from my home and the first time I stepped in the showroom was when I picked up the bike.  Less than an hour later I was riding it home.  I know one guy who flew up from Flordia to pick his up.  When I took it back for the break-in service there was a guy from western Maryland picking up his bike.  I tried going through a local dealer.  They were not willing to deal.
