I have been reading all about the Concours online, and finally decided today to go to my local dealer and buy one. Check in my pocket, I went to the dealer, and I picked out the Candy Arabian Red bike. We sit down to do the paperwork, and the salesman tells me that my out the door total was going to be $20,495:o

It was my understanding that these motorcycles were selling for $15-16k out the door, maximum. But $20,495?!? That is absurd. The lowest that they'd go is $18,300, which I think is still very high.

Am I horribly mistaken on what these bikes sell for, or was this dealer trying to rip me off? For what it's worth, this was in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Thank You.

If one considers the mad pow-ah of KiPass, the C14 is worth all that andf then some

Last march, when I got my  new '11, the cost of my bike, including extended warranty, was $14,000.
I thought $14k for a bike with the performance of a 80's super bike, a six year unlimited mileage warranty, and comfy features, was a bargain.

Dude, buy a $49 plane ticket to Arizona, buy one here and ride it home. Dealer invoice on a 2012 C14 is about $13,800 including freight and set up. Negotiate from that.....I paid $14,400 plus tax.

Yup, '80's super bike performance. Back in the '80's,  a bike like the '82 GS 1100e was a 1/4 mile time in the low 11's.
The C14's performance, in most of the moto rags I have seen, is upper 10's/lower 11's. Not knocking that, but that is also what liter sport bikes of the '80s were doing, check out a ZX11 or a GSX1100r from '86.
My '91 kat 1100 (design unchanged from when it first was introduced in '88), with a pipe and jet kit (yeah, I know they are mods, but on bikes back then with EPA regs, they were a must) feels faster than my C14. Plus, my daughter says the old kat feels faster when I gun it from 0 to 70 getting on the freeway so she must be right!

Yes, I think EVERY spec on the kat (design unchanged from when it was introduced) was indeed above other bikes of that day, and since. That is why you had to pay a premium price for them. The Yamaha Seca II was the only bike that even came close.

Yeah, but that is also a 3-year-old model, semi-used, lacking heated grips, probably lacking ABS and other features.

In early 2011, I paid $15,500 (out the door) for a new 2011 Concours with trade of a 1999 ZRX.  I suspect the ZRX was worth about $1,000.  So I really paid about $16,500.  Sounds about right for a new, current-year Concours.

Slightly semi used, does have ABS and who needs heated grips in Louisiana!!!!!  Gave him a $500 deposit and waiting on the sale of mine....
Dont take my LOW post count as being a new Connie owner, I have been with the "other site" before it imploded........

$20K for a c14 is indeed insane.  At those prices I'd be looking at k1600gt.

Others' comments about buying out of state make sense only if you're not living in CA.  As mentioned above, CA has strict emission standards.  Unless the bike is 50 state compliant, registering it in CA may prove to be difficult.  The last 2 cars I bought were both 50 state compliant so it looks like on most cars it's a non issues these days, but bikes are a few years behind.

If you've definitely settled on the c14, shoot out many emails to local dealers within say a 200 mile radius,  have them bid against one another.  Once you've got the price you want, have them fax or email you a signed sales order with all the numbers broken out.

.

If one lacks the intelligence to find a new '12 C14 for at least $5k less, then they really shouldn't get one. Go to CT, you'll find dealers in CA with deals. Much of CA is still in a horrible state of economy, all one has to do is drive a little further or even take a plane and fly out there, there are deals. If that is not enough, there are dealers in AZ and Ore with deal and yes, they have CA bikes. NV dealers want a lot so forget them.

Oh come on. Granted Oregon has more beauty while you drive down the road, ie trees and green shrubs and such, but California has way more miles of fantastic roads to drive on. However if you live in SF, you first have to drive at least 30 minutes to get a good road, but once you're there you can spend the whole day on them and never hit the same patch of asphalt twice.

That being said, I am an Oregonian, I love Oregon, I want to go back to Oregon, and my favorite road of all time, from Estecada to Detroit Lake, is in Oregon.

As you were.

MSRP in Canada recently dropped $1,200 to 18,999. Yamaha has just announced a $3,200 drop on the FJR to $16,999. It will be interesting to see what Kawasaki Canada does to compete.
