Bled front brakes, now no brake light - WTF???
« on: August 23, 2012, 07:51:56 PM »
hi all,

just finished installing my SpeedBleeders all around and bled brakes and clutch. Thinking that I'd be able to go for a ride tomorrow, I fire up Zeke and, while checking all my lights, find that the front brake does not activate the rear brake light.

The only thing I can think of is that on one occasion, I overfilled the master cylinder and when I reinstalled the diaphraghm and cover, some fluid overflowed. I'm wondering if maybe some fluid got into the brake light switch and has shorted it out?

Thoughts?

Take the switch off (one screw, if I remember correctly) and spray it with some electrical contact cleaner.  Work it a few times and see what happens.

NOTE: The switch seems to work "backwards", in that when the button on it is "OUT", the brake lights should be ON.  When it is pressed "IN", it breaks the circuit and the brake light should be off.

When you apply the front brakes listen closely can you hear the tiny little micro switch clicking? Try washing is out with a spray of WD40. Perhaps the wires came unplugged from the switch whilst you were working on the bleeding.

Bumping this thread, I just developed the same problem.  Where is the switch located and how do you get at it?  TIA

Stupid question here...did it work before you bled the brakes?

Right there in the master itself, when you pull the lever it works the micro switch itself.
