Converting C14 stock power outlet to Powerlet?
« on: June 18, 2012, 05:46:22 PM »
Has anyone converted the stock C14 power outlet to a Powerlet?  I installed a 2nd stock outlet hoping to cure the problem of a loose connection.  No success.  Tired of stuffing toothpicks and still losing power to my GPS.  Just want to know if it is a direct replacement or if modification required.  Thanks,  Jim

I used one of these Powerlet adapters:

I had to solder a small nut on the end to make a reliable connection.  I was going to post a pic, but seem to have misplaced the adapter.

I have seen these in my Ebay paroosing, but I dont know how well they work, they have both an all-time fused, and an ignition activated setup. Might be worth a try, then you could report back to us ;D

I already pulled the trigger on the Powerlet socket before the posting on the one from ebay, looks like I'll report back on that instead.  Thanks for both suggestions.  Jim

OUCH, 70 bucks.  Seems it would be cheaper direct from Powerlet.

The PowerLet sockets fit fine in the space behind the left hand panel.  They are a little smaller in diameter and length and the installation would have been easier if I had not already installed a stock outlet.  Because the hole cut for the stock outlet was larger than the PowerLet  I had to use a fender washer  on either side of the plastic panel, but it turned out fine.

I installed one on the left side as well. Ordered mine directly from Powerlet. Don't remember the price but it was way less than $70.

I may buy one after my upcoming maine/ canada ride.

Wow powerlet is proud of these, on their web page they show  butchered ZX14 subframe plastics  :o

I added mine to the left side. I wanted something I could keep the battery charged with and plug in my heated gear in the spring, fall and summer ridding months. :)
