Odd Throttlemeister buzzzzzzz
« on: June 12, 2012, 09:33:20 AM »
So the prior owner had a Throttlemeister for 2 years, but never installed it.  I put it on over the weekend.  No shims on the throttle side did the trick.  Hot Grips are installed and throttle locked up best with no shims.  I did the same on the clutch side, no shims.  I noticed zero buzz through the bars with the stock end weights on.  Now when I sit at 80 mph indicated, I get some buzzing on the clutch side only.  The throttle side has absolutely zero buzz at any rpm.  I thought that was so odd as any other bike I've ridden, if there was buzz, the throttle side is always worse.  So I pulled off the clutch side and put 1 of the slim shims on and didn't notice much of a change.  My ride after the throttlemeister install was only 20min or so, and after putting the shim was even shorter, but I can see this slight buzz at 80 mph on long trips might not feel too good.  Any thoughts?  I noticed the stock bar ends have some rubber dampening material in them.  May be why I didn't notice any buzz.  I could try another shim..... I'd say grip puppies, which I love, but these Hot Grips are pretty fat already and adding the pups would make them huge.  I'd say put the OEM bar end on the clutch side, but the throttlemeister is polished and if it was the black model, I'd do it.  I guess if it bothers me too much, I'd say the hell with looks and throw the stock one on the clutch side anyhow.

I suspect that the buzz is not the Throttlemeister itself, but the different end weight has affected the harmonics, causing some other fixture on your bar to buzz.  you might check and make sure all the fittings are tight.

I have the same setup as you JP, an 09 with Hot Grips and TM, I added these Grip Buddies, it's another option for you instead of the Pup's. The cost is pretty cheap and worth trying IMO, they transfer the heat from my Hot Grips no problem, you'll need to tell them your grip size etc and they'll make you a custom set to fit, they did that for me, install takes about 5 seconds...  :)

Hmmmm.... I might have to give them a try.  Looks like they may be a little softer than grip puppies.  I might not need anything.  I might just go back to the stock bar ends.  Not sure how much i'll use the throttlemeister.  It's a little hilly around here and the C-14 requires soooo little throttle adjustment on the move that minor adjustments would be continually applied going up and down hills that my throttle rocker just might be a better option or just leave the TM just tight enough for minor adjustments both directions.  Meh..... we'll see.  The vibes really are minimal anyhow..

What little vibration I had went away when I installed the heavy bar ends of the TM. I suspect something else might be going on with the bike.

Nooooooooooo perhaps a dead battery in the FOB, but an "error" is not possible

I have the same thing....but different !  I recently installed the Throttlemeister heavies on my 2011. Up to speed everything is fine but at idle, and just off idle, the left bar vibrates so much you can hear it. If I take my hand off the left grip it is even louder. I was just about to check it again to make sure it is tight. This is weird . All the fuss about C14 riders with numb right hands and I have a numb left one.

I don't hear any vibration from the left but i can definitely feel more in the left at any speed and at the 3500 rpm on hwy is when it gets significantly buzzier and settles down at 4k, but i dont want to sustain that high of a speed. So what i did was put the stock bar end on and figure of course the rubber insert helps, but i noticed that there was more of a gap from bar end to grip end with the stock and i had no shims in throttlemeister left side. So i figured maybe the weight is out further with the stock and the weight being in closer created a bad harmonic response at hwy speeds, so i shimmed the throttle meister on the lefts side out to match the gap of the stock. Who knows.... It might not do anything. I havent ridden it yet that way since im on vacation. Im completely happy with the throttle side being vibration free at any rpm.... Ridiculously smooth actually, so prob why the slight vibration of the left is exagerated for me.
