AreaP and reflash
« on: May 06, 2012, 07:38:29 PM »
I am looking at picking up a new c14 and having owned a 08 with flies out pc5 and AreaP slip on I know I will want the bottom/mid  Kawasaki left out.

My question is has anyone done the full AreaP with a reflash. I see a few post on the reflash but not a whole lot of information here.

Thoughts?

Torque.

He's wanting the bottom and middle torque that Mama Kaw decided that we didn't need.

Wendle the Pope has it. I want the bottom end and mid range this motor is caplable of delivering. It completly transforms what this bike is about. I was one of the first to own in 2008 and spent a fair amout of time and money dialing in the bike. I am hoping to go the reflash route with the exaust. I thought for sure someone on the group might have already done this mod.

I have the Guhl Motor's flash and Area P slip on....... Almost like getting a new gear between 0 - 5000 rpm...... Have to watch my speed closer!! The area P sounds great and not too loud. I've seen estimates of 15% torque below 5000. My butt dyno certainly digs it.

You won't be disapointed........

Wendle the Pope has it.

So, the Pope has a C14 and his name is Wendle.  He also wants more power.  Three facts I didn't know.  I'm impressed.  I wonder if anyone has seen him ride it?

Now Jim your feeling feisty. It is too bad the old forum crashed. I have been off for a long time but I still hate being a newbie here on the new site.

Zman, thanks for the input. I was pretty sure that they had tunes out for the slip on, the full system will a different tune.

I understand now. Kind of thought that he was alluding to the lack of torque in the low and midrange but was not really sure.

I just installed a Guhl tune with Area-P exhaust.  Unfortunately, I have not had it on a Dyno.  I did notice a really nice bump in low-end power, though.

I never did ask Don if the tune was specific to Area-P.  However, I'm sure that he would answer any questions you might have.

Well I pulled the trigger and ordered the AreaP full system today, then I ordered up a 2012 C-14 ( in Arabian red). I am still undecided on the tuning route. I can't pick up the bike until next week so I still have a week to sort it out. I have talked with Joe over at dynatronics for over an hour ( I am sure his ear is sore) I have to say he had an answer for all my questions. I have an email and call into guhl motors but have yet to hear from them. I have also talked with several other tuners. They say there's is the best. Different tuners do things differently. Case in point. I have had a couple of FZ1's one was tuned as per Ivan and the other per Dale (fz owners will know who these guys are) the approach was very different. The result was they were both very drivable beasts and a ton of fun to drive.

I am looking for user opinion on how the relash will perform with this exhaust. I will continue my due diligence with the shops.

Kind of funny you mentioned Dale (of Holeshot). He actually has his shop sort of close to me (about an hour away). I emailed him asking if he was going to make a full exhaust for the C14 and he said never.
Anyhow, from memory of the old board, one difference between dynatronics and Guhl is that Guhl lowers the rpm where secondaries more than dynotronics does, for more low end power.

My question is has anyone done the full AreaP with a reflash. I see a few post on the reflash but not a whole lot of information here.

Thoughts?

I pulled the flies on my 09 and found a noticeable improvement. I just finished installing a full AreaP system with a PCV and K&N filter. I only have about 100 miles with the mods. All I can say is wow! It doesn't pull as hard as my CBR 929 but is more like what I was expecting in the first place. Not that the stock setup is slow! I have notice an improvement starting at about 3k (rpm) on up. Of course this is subjective and only a dyno run will yield objective data.

Regarding the re-flash issue, I went with the PCV for the flexibility it offers. Change components and just change the map. All it takes is a USB cable, computer and 5 minutes. No mailing the ECU. I was concerned about "bricking" the ECU because of a mistake made by the flasher. Also of concern was warranty repairs. If something breaks and Kawasaki quires your re-flashed ECU they may point to the re-flash as the source of the problem and void the warranty repair. With the PCV, just unplug it and you are back to stock.

I am not sure what your overall objectives are (other than increased low/mid torque). I am very pleased with the performance increase and drive-ability with my new set-up.

I'm running a PCV right now but if I ever upgrade to the ZX14 throttle bodies I'll probably look into a reflash.  The one dyno chart I've seen with the ZX14 TBs showed that the bike hit the rev limiter before the horsepower peaked so I'm thinking I'd like to have the rev limiter raised about 1000 rpm and see how close they can get the fueling.  Would be great if they could also play with ignition and cam timing.

Question for the PNWR group on here. I want o do some dyno runs in the south sound area. Suggestions on a reasonably priced shop with a good dyno?

Since all I was really able to get was some subjective observations on this set up I'm going to get to the facts. I would like to pull a baseline before I do anything. A run after putting the full AreaP. and a run after tuning may two

I'm still on the fence on the relash. Still no call back after a week from Guhl. I may go the PCv route to start and see how it does. Both Kerry and Jamie say the PCv with full system will get the big #'s starting down low on the 2010-2012 models.
