Carbon fiber rear hugger
« on: April 28, 2012, 09:58:00 AM »
In an hour or so I am going to pick up my new carbon fiber rear hugger made by ProjektD.
Only ordered this a week ago from Taiwan so it shipped PDQ  ;D ;D

Anyone interested in some pictures before and after install?

Jon.

You gotta remove the exhaust to install it, highly recommend some thread-lock on the bolts. Be sure to install while on the centerstand, be very aware that you have adequate clearance for all around the tire.

Appreciate the advice.
Do you know if you need to "tweak" anything to ensure wheel clearance?

Jon.

Brackets are pretty beefy, and I think you have a bit of adjustment play for the mounting holes. I bedlined my brackets, I will never worry about them rusting. I honestly can't remember if I needed to do much adjusting, but it for sure does "hug" around that rear tire. ;)

Just opened the box to check the contents and have some pictures for you all  ;D ;D
The carbon fiber hugger was well packed and I also got the red filler plugs.

There was a plastic bag containing brackets, bolts etc that are needed for the install.
Next week I may be able to get the hugger fitted but at the moment I am unable to move much due to my chest having 5 big holes and 1 tiny one after surgery.

Jon.

I hope that you heal up fully and quickly.

This hugger is actually made by Skidmarx in the UK and is available in the US from Streetfighters by Design. There is no real need to buy it from Taiwan.

These guys?  http://www.streetfightersbydesign.com/

Terrible website....  is it the same as the ZX14 would be, as they don't have ZG/GTR listed?

Yep, that's the correct place. Their website is one of the worst I've ever seen. If you're serious about wanting the hugger give David a call (or e-mail), he's pretty good to deal with. We had a group buy on those huggers a couple of years ago and David imported them for us.

Well let's have another group buy!
Just how close is the tire?
I was going to go to a 190 55 or 200 55

I got one about a week ago, but I got the black one since my '09 is black.  I was originally looking at the Skidmarx site (not a great website) before finding Streetfighters and was happy because I just couldn't stomach the $70 for shipping.  SF shipped it the same day and shipping was only about $10.  I had a little issue with clearance on the right side; it was about as close to the tire as it could possibly be without rubbing so I didn't trust it.  I bent the right side bracket just slightly and it was perfect after that.  Like the instructions say, you will want to use some thread locker on the swingarm bolts when you put the nuts back on because once the hugger is on, the threaded portion of the bolt is literally just a hair to short to reach the lock on the lock nut.

So it sounds like a bigger tire like a 200 55 would NOT fit with this fender? or could  one make changes to the brackets to mount a biger tire?
Thanks jj

This was an issue that some of us who participated in the group buy a couple of years ago had. We ended up ordering slightly longer bolts for those locations.
