Man, I choped the exhaust just aft of the foot peg (ALA Moto GP) and bolted on a Holley 750 double pumper, neighbor kid said he got 50 more HP and 20 more MPG ;D

Hey, JJ, looks nice, should help the heat get all the way out to join them dearly departed cats ;)

I am not sure I would buy it either.  And even if so, it has to be pretty insignificant.

You saying that really shocks me. :o

Do they wrap Moto-GP exhaust headers?  Or Formula One?
That's what I thought........But it does look cool !

I'll bet if they rode 600-800 mile days on twisty two lane roads they would wrap um.  :). When the heat of summer hits, I will report how much it helped..

Nup, because they ceramic coat them instead. Same effect, a lot more expensive.

What about rust/corrosion when you wrap the exhaust like that?

I have had 3 C-10's. (Yea, I know this is a C-14 tread).
Always wrapped my head pipes because I think it helps a tiny bit when riding in traffic (And it looks cool). I think there is slightly less heat blown back on your legs in stop and go traffic.
Never had a corrosion problem because of the wrap.

NOTE: THe wrap is available (On Ebay) in red, blue, silver, white, and gray I think.....

Ride safe, Ted

Headers are stainless aren't they?

The header on the C14 is made of stainless steel. Corrosion should not occur.
Should I remove it, a little light sanding would snazz it right up.

This may not be true but I read that retaining too much heat in a stainless steel header can cause degradation of the stainless over time.  Not sure how much time.  I read that after I had already spent the afternoon wrapping the headers on my C10.  The wrap did help reduce the summer heat.  I think I had the wrap on for a few months then after reading a few articles about what the wrap can do to stainless, I unwrapped them.

One other thing to think about - wrapped headers will cause the pipes to be hotter further back in the system so just beware of anything that may to close to absorb the additional heat.  How much more heat, don't know.  Probably not an issue.

i just pulled mine apart for a valve check.  I didn't unwrap the entire header but did have to replace a damaged section where it had rubbed on speed bumps, or something. I inspected the header inside and out and it looked exactly as it had when I put it on 25000 miles ago.  I did notice a pretty significant reduction in heat when in stop and go traffic.  As for power....I pulled the flies and added a PC-V at the same time so the increase in midrange my butt feels could be from any of the changes I made.  Either way, nothing very significant but I don't have to shift out of 6th as often to pass.  The biggest improvement was to the sound, its not loud but it definitely sounds like the high(er) performance bike it is.

Some pics of the installation:

A member wanted pictures of the mods I did to the center stand and exhaust hanger.  Here are some pictures, nothing too pretty and I have meant to do something cleaner but hey, this has been working so far.

I wielded in a 1x1" extension for the center stand to clear the pipe.  I have dragged the peg without anything on the stand touching down.

I just hacked a piece of 90' aluminum for a hanger, not pretty but it works.

Nice job!

If you have ever been down into an engine room of a navy fast vessel boat, you will notice that all of the turbo exhaust section are wrapped like yours.
We used to wrap exhaust headers on race and rally cars too. The general view at that time was a change in temperature produced a change in velocity of the exhaust gases hence more back pressure to suck the exhaust gases out. Dont know if I believe that but flame propogation is a very vast subject IMHO.

I just got a new ZX14R header from ninja warrior here on the forum. I just capped off the left side and I plan to wrap the header before installing it. Is there any sort of technique to doing it? It seems like a no brainer, just wrap it like you would a bandage on your arm....overlapping each wind a little .... right???

I don't understand why would you use a ZX header with one side capped off ?
what is your reason for the change?

I got it from a forum member for a great deal (basically traded a stock seat that I didnt need) so the price was right. With the ZX14 header I eliminate the catalytic converter without having to try and beat it out of the stock C14 header. And the cap I put on could be easily removed should I decide to go with duals later.
Even with one side capped, the ZX14 header with no cat is going to flow better exhaust than the stock C14 header.
When I install the header (which will be mated to my existing 2 Bros can), I will also be pulling the flies and installing a PC-V.
