Corbin Seats and Smuggler....Gripe gripe.
« on: March 09, 2012, 11:05:13 AM »
Well let me say that I have owner several Corbin seat on several different motorcycles. I have always found them to be great platforms for my Airhawk, but far to rock like to ride as is. And the idea that they will break in, in 1K miles has never held true either. I have been lusting over the smuggler and seats for my new ride but after talking to them on the phone yesterday I am considering other options. Of course they don't have the 2012 Red color yet and they want me to send in a part to color match? 10 seconds on the internet I found color rite who sells the proper color. She told me she would talk to the paint department and get back to me. I was supposed to stay on hold but I gave her my number to call me back. Still awaiting that call.

Bike looks great without the side cases unlike my FJR so I was really wanting lockable storage for my day rides so I could ride without the side cases. Now I am not sure I want to give them that much of my money especially after reading about paint problems, poor customer service and 800 bucks for 10L of storage area.  My leather like Ogio tailbag offers 20 some L of storage, just not lockable.

I have a Bill Mayer seat on my FJR and it is nice but still better with the Airhawk, so now I don't know what to do.

Meanwhile I have money burning a hole in my pocket!!!

Me too. The Corbin setup looks great, but too many negatives to overcome. There are enough satisfactory options out there to spend that much money on a seat that needs another seat just to make it usable.

No paint issues with mine, I love my smuggler, $ well spent for me at least, but I am also a little bit crazy...  ;D

Even though smaller than most would like it holds all I need for day rides or commuting to work and back.  :)

Plus, I just think it looks cool...  8)

Your the reason I've been lusting over them  :banghead:. Emailed them asking about the police bike version, someone else has done so previously no doubt. No response of course. Will probably order the seats regardless.  Factory seat not horrible but not wide enough for the Airhawk...

Sorry to disagree with you but I think it's BUTT UGLY without the bags. I keep my bags on all the time, Now if it had dual exhaust it would look a lot better without the bags.

I think it looks fair without the bags, but the comment about the FJR looking worse blows me away.  I think the FJR looked great without the bags....

If you don't need too much room, how about the Sargent pod?

Well I pulled the trigger and ordered front and rear Corbin seats. No heat as I live in South MS. Going to hold off on the Smuggler. Still no return phone call or return email. These still seem like the best option out of what is available. Airhawk is what I like and need a seat to put it on. No extra seat to buy for a custom seat order and I wont send mine in and be without my bike...
