Looking for views from the Cockpit.
« on: August 22, 2011, 09:34:30 PM »
had my COncours since Memorial Day. 7000 miles later I have the Cockpit starting to take shape. Analog alarm clock and Digital Temp held by 3m's incredible dual lok Tape. Mirrors give me a big view on back when keeping an eye out for officers. Wide angle spots keep me safe from those idiot cagers on the Illinois Tollway buzzing on the left and right sides and make lane changes and passing a breeze and of course the ubiquitous compass in the middle of the sheild that actually works better than the 100 buck model that I bought that loves to spin and whirl anytime it encounters electrical interference from the speedo and tach  turning (i think). Anyone else have views that Will post so that I can see different set ups? Ram mounts on the way for Valentine1 and Android phone.

I like farkles as much as the next guy, but is that compass really important enough to put dead-center on the windshield like that? It seems it would be better off mounted where it doesn't block any forward view. And an alarm clock? There's already a clock on the dashboard; are you planning on sleeping on the bike a lot? Just so you don't think I'm trollin', those wide-area mirrors do look like they'd work well.

- center-mount Ram ball from Motorcycle Larry (not on their site currently) with Zumo 660
- clutch master cylinder lid and Ram ball with a Whistler XTR-695 radar detector
- NEP throttle lock
- Grip puppies
- bug collection on windscreen

At 6'3 the compass comes no where near blocking any view even with the Cee Baileys dome cut and when riding over in South East Ohio I frequently need to know which way a cross road is heading after getting all twisted up. Bought a hundred dollar compass that spun faster than the tires. This 2.99 thing is great and sticks no matter what, got one in the Si, the Ram truck and a little lower on the Meanie. Nothing replaces a compass that works even when the droid and the Tom TOm go south.

The Analog clock works all the time, no need to dig in my pocket to find the cell or turn the bike on to check the time, quick check to the right and it is easier to read for those of us who did not grow up digital. Have used the alarm on several occasions to let my friends know it is time to leave. Otherwise these jokers would spend another few hours shooting the Sh*t. Alarm lets them know....it's time. If we are going to make it home to mama and home cooking....its time. Just added the thermometer. Paid off today when I saw a sudden drop, skipped the trip to grocery and got home before the pop up shower got me.

THe mirrors are awesome. Had a lot of trouble withn the bags as my angle is bad looking from where I sit,  but these are just the ticket when watching troopers go the other way. Seem to be able to see a LOT of road back there. I did notice as the temp climbed from 70 to 95 today there was a lot more vibration as the temp got up there. May move them a half inch or so outboard as they look a little too far in when viewing from the front.

I like the K logo on your Zumo. How did you get that on there? The Whistler looks tucked away nicely . Hope my Valentine gets the same treatment. How do you get your warnings? Visual or audio? Does the placement of the detector on the right or left matter much?

Not thinking you are trolling but believe me when I say in my life "If it aint serving a function, it's gone" ......and no jokes about my 2 exes please.

I assume since that ride's gross weight is less than 12,500 lbs its approved for single rider operations, or do you need a co-rider ;D

Here is mine, the only thing that I have that I haven't seen anyone else post is a multi gauge.  It shows voltage, temperature, and time.  I really like being able to glance at my bike and know the temp and voltage even when the key is off.  It draw a very little power, but my bike rarely sits long enough to test how much it actually draws.  In three days of sitting idle, it went from 12.9 to 12.8.

Keeping the economy going, one tank of fuel and two tires at a time.

S'cool; just not the way I'd do it, is all. On the Zumo you can designate an image to be the splash screen, so I made that one. I'm also paranoid, so I made an image with my name and address on it and put it on there; that way I can prove it's mine. Also, I made the pdf versions of the service manual for the bike, the manual for the Zumo, the manual for the SMH-10 and the manual for my cell phone into jpg's (the full version of Adobe Acrobat can do that) and keep the pdf's and the jpg's on the Zumo, in case I need them.
The warnings from the radar detector are just what the detector came with; visual via flashing lcd screen, 2 blue "periscope" LED's and the factory screech. I'm planning on getting a Sena SR10 (actually, the A2DP follow-on to the SR10) which will let me get the alerts via bluetooth (and I can change the screech to voice alerts). I haven't tried it on the right, but I can't imagine it would be much different...the master cylinder cover can go on either side. I chose the left because I mostly use it on the NYS Thruway, and the LEO's tend to sit in the median.

edit: Link to the master cylinder cover from Motorcycle Larry.

On the clutch fluid reservoir is my Oxford grips controller, and the coiled cord is my cell phone charger.  I could have hooked my phone up to show that, but that is what I use for 99% of my pictures.

Impressive set up.....and your analog clock looks like it glows in the dark, nice touch .  Any problem steering or doing emergency manuevers? Thats a lot of equipment.

Thank you Sir-- No steering problems and thankfully haven't had any "emergency" manuevers to speak of.  ;D
