I hope this is not a oxymon.....
« on: July 11, 2011, 02:00:39 PM »
I'm in need of some touring boot under 2 bills that will last more that 20,000 miles.  Last year I got some very inexpensive Vega touring boots. They really did there job well, but you see I ride about over 20,000 mile a year, I think I need some thing that will last somewhat longer.  One of my co-workers has had his boots for 9 yrs now but he only rides maybe 2.000 mile a year. I was looking at http://www.compacc.com/p/AXO-Racing-Q2-WaterTech-Touring-Boots-Adult-Street for starters. Also the same issue for my Scorpion helmet, alot of wear a tear too, so I'll be in need of another one. :-\

Cheers

I have those boots and ride almost as much as you do.  They get to be kind of hot in the summer, but they're definitely long lasting.  I never hesitate to ride in the rain, and they've always kept my feet completely dry.

My Alpinestars are at least 10 years old and are still in good condition and water proof. I have no idea how many miles but certainly way more than 20,000. I cannot image getting any better usage than these have given me. Regular use of Nikwax makes a big difference:

If your boots are synthetic, this is what you want:

I have been riding for years but not near the miles you guys are putting on. I have never wore riding boots. What are the advantages? Thanks.

My Alpinestars are six months old and 4,000 miles on them and look new. I find that leather kept clean and softened with Mink Oil last a long time. I polish them black and the only marks are some light scuffs on the left toe from shifting. $129.

I just got my first pair of M'cycle boots in the past week or 2. They are Sidi sport rain boots. I ordered my size and thought about getting 1/2 size smaller but will just get nicer insoles instead. I paid $200.00 and they seem to be worth the $$, but again I have nothing to compare them to. I like a tight fitting boot, and that's a tough order given that most bike boots have no laces. These come close and are supposed to be at least water resistant, Webbikeworld says these boots past their "bucket test" as water proof. The Velcro over zipper closure system gives a good fit in the ankle/calf and are comfortable in the toe/box area, but the heel cup could be tighter for me (that's where I hope an insert will help). These are synthetic but get good reviews for comfort and longevity, time will tell.

I would never ride WITHOUT boots.  The most obvious of the advantages to me is the sure traction I get when stopped.  But more important than that is the protection.  My lower legs and feet would feel real vulnerable without them!

Probably the biggest advantage of a purpose built motorcycle boot is the protection that it provides your feet and ankles. Feet and ankles are very complex and difficult to repair, the healing process is long and painful. The next big advantage is the fact that most of today's M/C boots are completely waterproof and still breath pretty well. My boots go on my feet every time I get on the bike. I highly recommend you get the best you can afford as like helmets, they can and do make a difference.

I have a set of Tourmaster Solution boots.  (incidentally, they are featured in the right margin of the link you provided above for $107)

They're waterproof, and have a simple classic design... I like them a lot.
I don't want a pickle... I just wanna ride my motorsickle.

I don't know what you call "touring boots", but my Redwings have lasted me for over 30 years, with only 2 re-soles.

I ride with Icon field armor boots almost 10,000 on them and no wear to speak of. Although theycome off whenever I get off my bike. Always carry a pair of comfortable shoes or sandals with me .

I was going to recommend Aerostich Combat Lite Touring boots, but a quick check of their web sites shows they've raised the price to $300. Great boots, but I'm not sure they are $300 great.

I have the Tourmaster Solution boots and ride year 'round in those. Had them about four years; rode in all kinds of weather; had an "un-scheduled get-off", so they're scuffed up a little; don't ride nearly as much as 20K a year, but like them just the same.

Call me crazy, but I ride with a cheap pair of tactical boots from Big 5 Sporting goods.  $30 ($40 if you want the side zipper).   Don't get me wrong, I believe in wearing proper gear, but these have a great anti-slip sole and decent ankle protection.
