[q] c14 '08 airfilter install, what side is up ?
« on: August 09, 2015, 02:03:28 PM »
Hello,
When replacing airfilter on '08 C14 abs, I noticed that it was installed the metallic side up.
However, in this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxDiqMcEaQU
(2011 c14)  the air filter was shown installed metallic side down

what's the right way?

thx

If your filter has a metal mesh backing, it goes up to support the filter media against the engine suction. K&N filters like the one he installed do not have a metal mesh backing and you have to go by the slots on the side, like he did on the video.

thank you, it is clear now.

quite a chore to get to that filter ! (attaching pic for others who might be new to the bike)
I will get the 67$ K&N, so will follow the slots on the sides.

Since you have mentioned K and N - any with experience know if it is a direct fit on this bike?  Like exact same as oem replacement?  Thanks

BTW -
I ask, because on some bikes, the size is a little off.

The K&N is a chore to remove. Make sure and use the supplied grease around the rim. They like to stick in there after a while. ;)
