This is a Avon Storm Ultra tire, 3 years old and with 10000 mi on it. It s due but did not expect this
I keep tire pressure at 42-44, do not overload the bike and ride 2 up 50% of the time
Any idea
I run nothing but Avons.....the Storm 2 Ultras, and the regular Storms before them. Have a set of the new Storm 3D-XM's on now but haven't ridden on them much.
10k miles is wow for me...I NEVER get that out of them...if I even get 5k miles out of a rear I'm excited.
But to answer the original question...I've never seen 'em split like that. I had a rear tire fail very quickly on me one time...turns out the pressure was a little low, but I did chat with an Avon engineer at the time, and he said that the Storms were never really meant for a big heavy (and powerful) bike like the C14. I can burn through a rear tire in 3500 miles if I'm having lots of fun;).
