It's annoying the extents the manufacturers go to in order to save some pennies. A capacitor would have enough juice to power those things for some time, I'm sure.
Indeed. And it is nothing new. I have had devices from 25 years ago that would remember settings for 10 to 60 seconds. Nowadays, they could just use flash memory or static RAM, which is 1000 times cheaper than just 10 years ago... they would only need a few hundred bytes... maybe half a dollar?
