battery
« on: April 11, 2014, 02:02:49 AM »
starting the 6th year of my OEM battery and feeling it weak during the morning starts. Time to change it. Decision has been made, so don't try to talk me out of it  ;)
Question is: should I go with the OEM battery, another battery, different capacity ratings, etc? Li-Ion? what's the folk's experience with this?
Thanks,
Martín

:)   Yes to everything, of course, but as you've had good luck with OEM, I'd probably stick with it.  It's like my wife trying a new hamburger recipe.  We have a tried and true one that works great on the grill and tastes just as good and juicy warmed up.  She wants to try something new that's invariably not as good as the original recipe.  I hate change.  Why angst over a battery?  Purchase what has worked in the past and grill what you are familiar with and tastes good.

How long should I grill a new battery and what seasoning give it the best taste? I agree with Jim though, the OEM battery served you well. Get a new one, it will be much more tender than your old one.

Overcooking a battery could be lethal.  Batteries are best served warm.

Mine is only 3 years and seems to be failing.  I think it was permanently damaged because it sat depleted at least twice.  So I am in the market for one too.

I will be replacing mine soon and will go with an OEM replacement. They are the most cost effective.

You can get lighter weight batteries at signifigantly higher cost but what is the point of saving 2 pounds on a 600 pound bike?

Ah, but with a lighter battery you won't be saying "Does this battery make me look fat?"

Lighter means smaller which means more room which would be advantageous if you were traveling through Colorado.

Well, if you saved the OEM battery CASE, and placed the new mini battery inside it.... it would be a better battery..... 8) to do a Colorado run.... but I don't know anything about that stuff..... :-[

as for new batteries, I'll resurrect these guys, price went up a bit, but delivery is uber fast, I got mine in less than 48 hours from calling in an order, website purchase may add a couple days.... I suggest calling them....

Has anyone here purchased one of these lithium batteries? How do they perform after a year or two?

sorry to revive this thread, but I'm taking the bike for maintenance next week to the dealer (yes, I like/trust them) and still not sure I need a new battery. I'm reading 14.4V when riding, 11.9V when left over night. Bike starts fine when cold, it only takes a second (I mean literally 1 second, 1 and 1/2 tops) and I never had to push the button twice. Battery is OEM 2008.
What signs to look for? Or am I just being cheap/paranoid?

Didn't you say it was starting weakly at the beginning of this thread?  Now it's ok?  Anyway, my 2002 C10 did over 5 years on it's original battery and I changed it because of the years on it.  I think you would be wise to change it out on your bike with the number of years it has.  If you've had good luck with the OEM then get that brand.  I would.  I changed mine (C14) at 3 years (nothing wrong with it) because I was going cross country and wanted to make sure that the battery would not be an issue.  I would stop stressing out on it and just do it.  We've given you some alternate battery resources but we don't know what's available in Germany.  I'm sure the OEM battery is available there.
