Leaking valva cover gasket ?
« on: October 05, 2013, 06:45:30 PM »
I've been smelling a little oil burning smell coming off my motor everynow and then.

Couldn't see any drips or burnt spots on the headers with all the tupperware on so I pulled the plastic off the right side to have a look.  Been wanting to look in there anyway.
Looks like the valve cover is seeping above the 2 middle cylinders.  Not dripping but just enough to make the odor I've been smelling.

I bought the bike--2009 with 17500 miles--a couple of weeks ago.  It also has 2 years left on the extended warranty.

It will be due the valve check in about 5000 miles.  What are the odds of getting some of the labor charges dropped if I take it in for warranty work and get the valve job done at the same time ?
Especially since they will have to do most of the work just to get to the valve cover.

I also have a low battery warning in the rear tps that pops up every now and then which the previous owner told me about.  The dealer already said they would replace it.  I'll take care of that when I have a new rear tire mounted--which won't be long.

I fully expected to have to do some of these things so I'm looking forward to getting everything in good working order.

On a positive note--My Kipass is working great.  All I have to do is remember where I put the fob.  Thinking of just having one of the fobs surgically implanted so I'll never be too far away from it's awesomeness.  Kinda like my blankie when I was a little crumbcruncher.

Sounds like your cam sensor o-ring not your valve cover I could be wrong....but do a search lot of information on it.
When arguing with an idiot make sure he isn't.

Took them two times to fix my 2009. Here's the original thread:

Mine turned out to be the valve cover gasket and not the cam sensor o-rings according to the dealer.
