What's needed for a valve adjustment?
« on: August 16, 2013, 11:55:00 AM »
So my factory repair manual just came in and I'm ready to adjsut valves.
Other than shims what are all the gaskets, o-rings, other parts, do I need to order and have in front of me? I want to get this done in one weekend without having to go to a dealer for emergency parts.

Thank you!

Let's see: I put a new valve cover gasket on. Old one looked find, did it for mental insurance. You will need a few new shims if you find any out. Hopefully your local dealer stocks them. Many Kaw dealers don't. Good news is that Honda valve shims are readily available at most dealers and are a direct fit.

Other than that, just some patience, good instructions, and a good torque wrench.

I have the full Service Manual, but couldn't have done it without Fred's excellent C-14 maintenance videos, [urlhttp://www.angelridevideos.com/concours.html][/url]

Good luck!

Thanks so much. I will buy a new valve cover gasket. Does anyone have a link to the O-ring that supposedly leaks? I don't know the part number or what is called.

Nice link Steve.  I don't have 11 hours to spare so when the time comes, $500 is going to get spent.  Yes, that is what the local speed shop charges.
