I thought I would ask about helmet preferences. I use a flip up.

Full for me, I have a Shoei GT Air that I love.  I test drove several helmets and that one did it for me.  I ordered a few weeks later and am very satisfied.

I use a Shoei Hornet DS. I got for my duel sport adventure riding but find it so comfortable I wear it all the time. The extra inch or so in front of my mouth just makes it less confining feeling.

Why do they do that?

All I have ever used is full face, never had any desire to tempt fate.  Although the flip-ups seem interesting, I just never saw any real need for it... especially if it is negatively correlated with safety, while being heavier, louder, and more expensive.

Flip up for me. It's too hot in houston in the summer not to be able to get some extra air at stop lights. Heck I've even been known to remove the visor during the summer to help cool my head. Of course I always ride with prescription riding/safety glasses so the visor almost seems redundant.  :o

Arai full face here, but I've been wanting to try a Schuberth C3 flip up.

I always worn full face Scorpions until i just  picked up a Nolan n90 flipper and I FREAKIN LOVE THIS THING!!! For anyone that wear glasses a highly recommend a modular with the top gun sytle sun screen. Only noise that it makes is where the wind hits the Sena unit on the side.

- have always worn full face (from racing days) but have always envied the convenience of the flip ups.

- perhaps the moden flip ups are better ? If people like Schuberth , Arai , Shoei , etc , dare to make flip ups , they must be safe ?

I agree with2@tall. My last 3 helmets have been flip ups. Time to buy another. I have a Nolan now and am going to take a close look at the N90. The main reason is wearing glasses and flip ups are so much better IMO.

I'm on my 2nd modular helmet (aka flip-up)

First was a Scorpion EXO 900.  A nice entry-level helmet, that fit my head fairly well.

It was loud -- I always had to use earplugs with it.

I recently bought a Shoei Neotec, and absolutely love it.  Fit is really good, although I did buy a smaller set of cheek pads.  A huge bonus is that it is SO much quieter than the scorpion.  No earplugs needed at all.

I tried the Nolan's as well, but they didn't fit quite as well, and the color of the sunscreen seemed "odd" to me.

The N104 was the top of my list but it did not fit my head right but the N90 fit like a glove and CompAcc has them for $199 with free shipping.

You're not suppose to ride with it flipped up...

You'd also have problems if you put the helmet on backwards...

Don't blame the helmet for misuse by the rider...

I don't get it. I was on a COG ride and a wife of one of the riders missed a turn and went to an embankment. Her modular was not open, it was secure and locked. Her face hit the hill and the chin bar busted right off. Her face was not in good shape. She had to be taken out by life flight.

ill agree there are cheap modulars that ive looked at that I thought would snap off with a light hit but the good ones mentioned above seem very stout
