Oxygen Sensor on 2009 C-14
« on: July 20, 2013, 10:57:09 PM »
When changing a blown fuse, I came across a 15 amp fuse labeled "O2 sensor". Me thinks this very curious as I have been told no open or closed loop O2 sensors were installed on the American delivery bikes. This is a California delivery bike, if that matters. As you can see from the fuse holder, my bike is also very 'smart' and can even 'answer back' when necessary, and it sings a lovely tune at about 7,000 RPM with the V&H CS-1 pipe I installed. I must have a special one...

I have wondered why most of our bikes didn't get o2 sensors.  It seems logical to think that with an o2 sensor the bike would be more fuel efficient vs running strictly speed density with no feedback to afr's.

Keep in mind that the Concours is available world-wide.  And in some markets, it does have an O2 sensor (because it is required there, for emissions control).

I have wondered why most of our bikes didn't get o2 sensors.  It seems logical to think that with an o2 sensor the bike would be more fuel efficient vs running strictly speed density with no feedback to afr's.

The reason is probably cost.  O2 sensors are (or used to be) expensive... in the $50 range.  Now, to me that seems like a crazy low price to omit something on a high-end bike (kinda like cruise control, although that would cost even more).

With an O2 sensor, it would, indeed, have even better emissions and tuning control.  Might even get a tad bit better fuel economy.

Is there actually a 15a fuse in that position?

Yup, I checked that first thing when I saw it, thinking it would be an empty space- but a red 15 amp is in there. Must be the California bikes have sensors and I would like to hear from other Ca. owners.

Nope, no sensors in my 2011 California bike, at least not yet.

No O2 sensors in the US market unless they've been added afterwards by the PO.  No way, no how, from Kwak Central.

Pull the fuse out and see if there's an actual connector on both sides of the fuse socket.  Maybe the PO put a fuse in there not knowing any better, or maybe to store a spare.

OK fellow forum members, here's the key to our conundrum: does anyone else have the fuse holder like my bike does with the same circuits? Take a picture if so. Simple question - simple answer. And yes it appears to have all the necessary connections. Maybe I should ask Fred, the dealer probably is useless.
I might have the only bike in North America to have an O2 sensor, but I doubt it.

I'll look tomorrow.

Why don't you just look at the exhaust and see if there's an o2 sensor in it?

I don't see any sensor wires coming from the headers or cat. con. areas, and I ain't taking off any Tupperware. I guess I could unplug the fuse and see what happens..

I think that you can pretty much see the entire exhaust with very little effort and without removing the plastic.

This is what happened to the last C14 that had that fuse pulled...

I just checked my non CA '08 C14 and it has the same fuse. My 15a fuse is blue though and the fuse holder has the fuses listed in a different order.

Just looked at the 2009 Schematic. Looks like the O2 fuse also powers the Oil Control Solenoid Valve, So that could explain the fuse being in there.
