They're easier to loosen on the bike...

+1

I cracked them while on the bike with a breaker bar.  They were still a pain in the *ss, every turn was locktight. I almost called it quits to purchase an impact wrench for my compressor!

Get three, one for the comp,. a heavey duty plugin model (I got the cheaper Kobal branded one from Lowes, works better than I ever dreamed), and get a rechargeable Porter Cable that takes the slip in bits, make sure you pickup the 1/4 and 3/8 in. adapters.  Once you have the last two wrenches the first will be just like an old camera, cool to look at, but rarely, if ever used.

Will your black (bet the title still say black  ;)) bike go fast enough to make CF rotors work effectively? ;)
Carbon/carbon rotors are not safe for road use as they need to be seriously hot to work well.
They bite like a BEYOTCH (bruised nads!) and then apply progressively more braking even when ya don't move the lever any more.
MotoGP guys have to brake, then let off to maintain the same deceleration.

Carbon Ceramic rotors however are awesome.
A friend has some on his CBR1000RR and the stopping power and feel is amazing.
Stupid $$$$$ but he does a lot of track days on it.

I just checked with him and they are BrakeTech Series 2 CMC rotors with Ferodo Sintered pads.
He wouldn't tell me how much they cost. I guess if ya gotta ask then ya can't afford them.  ::)

Mine were not that bad actually.  Didn't take that much force to loosen them on the bike.  I did one side on the bike and the other off.  Didn't have any issues at all.  I guess it depends on which gorilla at the plant installed them.  They have three you know.  One can't tighten worth a hoot.  One is just right.  And the other uses an impact wrench.

I found myself in the same boat as Steve, rotors are getting thin.  Steve, I'm not sure how you got so many miles out of yours.  I would expect living in Florida, you would be using the brakes all the time, dodging those old folks in their pink Cadillacs.

Anyway, found this deal on zero mile take off ZX14 rotors, of the newer 2011+ style : http://www.ebay.com/itm/06-07-08-09-10-11-Ninja-ZX-14-ZX14-OEM-Front-Brake-Rotor-Disc-2011-/271206146778?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3f252562da&vxp=mtr.  These are the exact same part number as the C14 2011+ rotors, so are a direct replacement for anyone who might be looking.  At the time of this posting, there were 20 available.

Makes me wonder why anyone would remove the front rotors from 11 zero mile ZX14s.

I was wondering that too.  Maybe they're setting them up with GOLD carriers, after seeing pics of ZG's color threads.   ;D

He doesn't like the brakes on the 1400. So someone else like this probably already did the overhaul.

If mine go bad, I'm going with the rotors from the zx10. Same diameter, but they are 1mm thicker.  Kawasaki uses the 5mm thick disc on the c14 and the zx's are 6mm thick. I think they migh be mor edurable.

The Ebay  listing said they had sold 2 and had 20 left so I suspect something else.

That's good to know.  Do they bolt right up?

I was wondering what the heck Kawi was thinking, making a 5mm thick rotor (4.8mm to 5.2mm), with a service limit of 4.5mm.  Seriously, 0.5mm of allowable wear?  That is ridiculous for a front brake rotor.

Will the pads in the calipers rub?

I have not ordered a set to confirm, btu bolt pattern and offset match. I KNOW they will, but I've never tried.

No, the pads will not rub. I proved that on my Ninja.  My yz 250 fell on my Ninja. Jealousy, I suspect.  The right front rotor was bent. I did straighten it, but ended up ordering zx6 rotors.  Just like our situation here, the zx6 rotor was 1mm more thick.  The zx6 rotors were 6mm, the oem Ninja 1000 were 5mm.

I spread the pads out when I removed the caliper. This makes it easier to slide the wheel back in.  I pumped them back up, and there was no extra drag.  The fluid level in the m/c was higher, but thats it.  Just like the c14, the 4 pistons on each side are able to slide back into their bore an extra .5mm.

I'd imagine the zx14 rotors are the 6mm spec as well???  I'll have to take my micrometer over to the shop and check.

C14 and ZX14 rotors are the exact same part number from Kawi.

I have a set of ZX14 rotors which came with the ZX14 front wheel I bought on Ebay when I bent my C14 wheel. They were allegedly from a wrecked bike with low miles. I just miced  them and get 4.85 mm and 4.87 mm.
