Get about 1/2 mile and screen starts blinking "No Transponder". I'm thinking what the h... the transponder has failed, whatever that is. Stop the bike and try to restart. Nothing, bike is all locked up.
Welcome!!!
Yep, that message is warning you "DO NOT TURN OFF THE BIKE, THE TRANSPONDER IS OUT OF RANGE" (Wouldn't that be a better message). You did the exact wrong thing

Your next mistake will be to lock your jacket containing the transponder in the left bag and then later realize IT IS STILL IN RANGE, so ANYONE could have walked up to your bike, pressed the knob in, turned it, then started the bike

Today I got my first "TRANSPONDER BATTERY LOW" and it took me several seconds to associate "transponder" with "active RFID key fob"

I HATE the annoying red light, so I got a battery for it immediately (it is a less common CR2025 instead of the VERY common CR2032, figures). I guess I am set for another two years or so.
