I suspect the reason the pinlock shield says daytime only is due to the occasional 'double vision' you'll get at night when looking at other vehicles' headlights, restaurant lights, etc ... more so off to the sides than straight ahead. Mine's an Arai; Doesn't bother me much, and it's not always noticeable, almost like it depends on the humidity ... maybe  :o

Edit: Yeah, I just googled it, and one guy appropriately called it a 'starburst effect'. That's a good term for it. Also "reflections". But most seem to say they get used to it and it doesn't bother them, and I agree.

Ug.  Well, I will find out myself tomorrow night (since tonight was a no bike night).  There is no way I will be putting it on and taking it back off, since half my riding is night.  And swapping whole shields is also a pain (and the main reason I got the drop-down tinted internal shield.  Hmm.

Nope. It clearly said it's due to allowing less than 80% light transmission. Europe requires 80%, and the US and Australia 85%. But I don't see that as a problem at all, to be honest. By the way, the pinlock has a yellow tint, so good for night riding.

Maxtog, forgot to say another warning is the pinlock needs to be removed 'frequently', or it could ruin both the shield and pinlock by the silicone permanently getting stuck to the shield. I presume this is when the sun hits it in summer, I'd guess (plus also when an expanding pinlock can break the posts). Anyway, too many negatives for me to try it. And just found out can't put antifog spray on my glasses due to both reflective coating and transitions coating, so will not install the pinlock after all. And just rely on opening the vent and/or cracking the shield open if needed, like I've always done before.

Thank you all very much for your help. Will try the helmet as is and go from there. If not sure about a long trip, would just order the thinner center pad and carry it around in case it bothers my head. Have a good one.

And now I know the negative.... the pinlock has an annoying and distracting glare at night where the oncoming lights are reflected above and move OPPOSITE to head movement.  I think it is tolerable... barely.  I have a feeling I will only use the pinlock during cold weather riding.  If you angle the helmet down more, the glare will disappear off the top of the visor.  But my riding position will not allow this... some people without risers might not experience the glare at all.

That's the only time I put the visor down and that's when I need the pin lock to stop fogging. So my pin lock is in almost all the time.

I agree Max, there is a glare associated with the Pinlock. I have been riding at night lately and have really noticed it! I'll live with it but I do notice it.
