Early Model Rims fit Late model?
« on: October 08, 2011, 08:38:20 PM »
I had just put a new Pilot Storm and Venom along with new bearings on my 86. I bought an 01 with new Shinkos on it. I am going to part out the 86 and have thought of bagging the avons and putting them on when needed. I figure I will have to change front rotors but will this work otherwise?
I am also unsure how long the tires will "keep" May be 2 years before I could use them.

No this will not work without much effort as the axle/bearing size is not the same....

Clean the tire well with soap and water, store in a cool, dark  and dry location and it will store just fine.

the rear is a direct swap, the front requires all the parts associated to be swapped also, pretty much everything from the tripple tree to the tire, that means forks and everything attached. Front axle and brakes differ between the models..... rear, not so.

Thanks. I will remove the front from the rim then and bag the whole rear assembly. I assume the rear rotor fits too.
