Anyone Ever Sold A Bike Overseas?
« on: July 28, 2011, 08:42:01 PM »
Hey folks! I'm just now getting around to re-registering since the original forum went away.

For my first post back, I'm already needing some advise. Has anyone ever sold a bike to someone overseas? I'm trying to sell my chopper and have a guy in Sweden interested. Everything seems legit so far. We've been in communication for a couple weeks now, and nothing seems out of the ordinary or reeking of a scam.

One thing he does insist on is using paypal to complete the transaction. He said it helps protect the buyer. Said he recently got scammed on another deal from the U.S. and never received the bike after payment. I have a verified paypal account but I'm just not that familiar with paypal.

It will be a rather large money transaction. He has agreed to pay all the international transfer paypal fees. Should I be worried at all about using paypal? Is there any way that I can lose out after being paid then shipping the bike, like a chargeback or reversal on his part?

He is making all arrangements for the shipping.

In my experience Paypal tends to side with the buyer if the whole deal doesn't turn out perfect.  As long as there is insurance through the shipping company and your bike is exactly as described and if you will have proof of delivery then I would say go for it.
Keeping the economy going, one tank of fuel and two tires at a time.

If your the seller you have much less to worry about in this transaction then the buyer. If he pays you with paypal in advance of shipping you can immediatley transfer the funds to your bank account. I'm on the west coast and sold a bike last year to a guy on the east coast from an ebay auction, everything went very smooth and we were both happy. Not sure I'd do this on the buying side though, I always shop for stuff within a fly to a ride back perimeter...

Good luck, hope it all works out good for both!  :chugbeer:

Thanks for the replys!
We're suppose to try and finalize everything this weekend. Wish me luck!

Hate to see the chopper go, but I'm just not riding it that much since I got the 09 Concours last year. Kawi has spoiled me!

I'd be concerned if he DIDN'T want to use Paypal. My company ships some products internationally to individual buyers and we've learned the hard way to be leery of anyone who refuses to pay via PP, since it accepts credit cards and has pretty solid security against all the usual scams. Just make sure you're shipping to the same address as the CC owner is supposed to have.
