New turbo installed
« on: June 19, 2012, 05:22:41 PM »
It's taken a long time. Chris Jones had back surgery, but is recovering and has now installed a Garrett GT28 turbo kit on my '08 Connie. I test rode the bike a few days ago and it pulls like a freight train all the way to near 180 mph indicated. It then hit the speed limiter. A Speedohealer V4 is on order to defeat the limiter and a Pingel electric shifter is coming too. I expect delivery of the completed bike in 2 weeks. A Cooling Mist water/methanol injection system is also installed. Carillo forged turbo 9.5 CP pistons are used as well as numerous beefed up springs, etc. Also has Soupy's adjustable lowering links and side stand as well as a front end lowering strap for the track. Boost now at 7 psi for 230 hp. I told Chris to bump it to 250 hp. Very well mannered and stealthy street bike with everything hidden behind plastics, a real sleeper, until I twist the throttle for boost. Then, it's hang on time. File too big for even 1 more pic.  Lew

Great to see it done Sir. :) Have to get a GoPro now and do some recording for posterity, heheh.

BTW, what gen C14 do you have? the first gen C14 doesn't have a speed limiter., but I would advise that you ditch the bags anytime you want to go play at speeds over 160mph. The aerodynamics and buffeting around the hard luggage can get pretty, erm... sketchy at speeds higher than that.

...welcome to the insanity.  ;D

Sorry.... sometimes my head is so far up my ass that I forget to -read-. :)

Buuuutt, you should have no speed limiter. If you had the bags on you were probably just running out of power to push it through the air at that speed. 7psi starting from 9.5:1 compression is probably not enough power to push the bike much faster than that with all the luggage on. Hell, it might have a hard time of anything faster with the bags off... it takes an insane amount of power to push something with this much frontal area/COD ratio through the air at those speeds. You run out of speedometer at 180, but it'll keep pulling if you have the room... you just have to do the math for mph from your tach or a gps. :)

Be careful exploring it, stuff has a habit of materializing out of thin air at those speeds, heheh.

I hate to ask this question, but .....

How much have you invested in upgrading your '08 C14 to 250hp?  Curiosity is getting the best of me!

180 indicated is probably about 170 actual - my speedo is 10 mph fast at 160 indicated.  You state that the 08 does not have a speed limiter, are you sure?   The only reason I ask is that it's possible that everyone just assumes that because they won't pull anywhere near 170 stock so nobody has seen it.

Its no secret the Zx14 and C14's have speed limiters. We used speedo-healers to cheat that on our ZX14s

No. Punky is soon to be 18 and is nearly blind. His hearing is bad and he has few teeth left. But, he's still with me.  Lew

200mph On a Concours 1400?!

...the math for speed is in the video description, as it pulls off the speedo in 5th gear. :) Nothing was done to the bike as far as trying to defeat any speed limiter. It kept pulling 6th, but I was running out of safe road to see how much further it would go.

The 2nd gen C14's are limited. No one would know if the 1st gens were unless they had around 100hp worth of nitrous or a turbo, regardless of what kind of electronic trickery was bolted to it
