Rims on a street bike are softer than you think if you hit them just right.

I bent both rims hitting a huge chuckhole merging on the interstate when I had my FJR.  It was over $1200.00 with new bearings and all.  I turned it in to Insurance and my insurance doubled the next year so I changed companies.

My latest adventure Saturday was hitting a buzzard that popped up from the weeds at the side of the road 20 feet in front of me while I'm doing 70 MPH.  Took out my headlights and upper fairing.  Around $650.00 to fix it. I won't turn this one in.

I hit a small eagle one time while flying at about 120mph. The wing took on a different shape, cost about $23,000 to fix (cheap actually, compared to most other fancy airplanes).

A friend was driving his Porsche at some unmentioned speed when a truck in front of him kicked up a form stake (a 1/2" steel rod about 30" long). It went through the tire, through the rim (yes through), took out the entire exhaust system, made a turn upwards and took out the A/C. The impact created such high preasure inside the car that the rear window was blown to bits. Fortunately the car was controllable and no one was hurt.

Go home, close the doors, turn out the lights and go to bed -- the world is seriously dangerous.

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me, I want people to know "why" I look this way. I've traveled a long way and some of the roads weren't paved.

If you're getting new wheels anyways you might as well powder coat them black before you go to all the work of mounting them...

Just a thought...  8)

Did you check on having your rims repaired by wheel bender mender?  If insurance isn't paying for it, it could be a way to save you some $$$

A guy who repairs wheels came by to take a look, the front was an obvious no, the rear was a no after inspection. A real shame but I lived to see another day, and ride my beloved C-14 once more. Next ride, June 3rd...bachelor party in Palm Springs! Go Irish!

Did you at least take the rock with you as a memento?  It could make an interesting discussion piece.

You beat me to it. Though I might choose a luckier rock for that purpose.

Just out of curiosity, what were you doing that you didn't see a rock that size at 20mph?

We had just ridden thru the hills and the road finally flattened and straightened out. I looked over my left shoulder to appreciate the pure beauty of the Arizona desert and....BAM!!!! Never saw the damned thing, not once. My bad, will make sure I look waaay ahead before I decide to sight see. No powder coating here, she's back and beautiful. Go Irish!
