California Scientific "wide" shields

Completed a search but found only one or two mentions of the Cal Sci "wide" shields. Am considering buying one, size large, wide.

Has anyone tried the newer wide version? Does the wide version offer any advantages over the "regular"?

Any feed back would be appreciated. I am 5'10 with 31 inseam and it is a rare day we hit mid 70's. Most of my riding is in 60-65F.

How WIDE are you? 

My experience, I have a CalSci Large and a CalSci X-Large, and the only time I've wondered at the WIDE version is in the coldest of winter days with the L or XL all the way up dumping air right on my hands, I've wondered if the WIDE version wouldn't do that.

Not that wide:) But was thinking the wide model might offer good hand protection. Starting from scratch here, knowing nothing about the differences between the regular and wide models.

I just purchased a cal sci wide xl because I have a 2500 trip planned and I thought the extra wind protection would be nice. I'm 5'10 30" inseam. I installed it on a day in the upper 80's and went for a short ride to try it out. I had to pull over and take my leather jacket off because this thing really does give great wind protection and I felt a bit too warm. It's the first windshield I've used that gives good hand protection. That said I'm now thinking it may be too much protection for my trip which will include northern Arizona the last week in June. It will start warming up around here so I should know before my trip if I'll have to switch back to my +2 shield before we leave. Great shield! Great Service! Warm and quiet.

I just got the wide calsci screen a couple weeks ago and I'm not really that impressed. It offers a little too much wind protection for temps above 70. It only protects your hands with the shield all the way down to about 1/2 way up. After that the wind blows under the extension area onto your hands. My biggest complaint is above 55 mph it feels like someone is pushing on my back forcing me foward. This only goes away with the screen below the 1/2 way down mark which in turn dumps tons of wind on you from the chest up. For reference I'm 5' 11" with a long torso but I tend to hunch over and my line of sight is about even with the top of the screen in the full up position that way. I also have a Cee Bailey euro tour screen that deflects the wind up over my helmet better and has less back pressure. The CB euro tour allows more turbulence around my shoulders but it's welcomed in the warmer weather.

The shield will only protect your hands well in the lowest position. Once it is raised you will get air on your hands. A good set of deflectors will work better for your hands.

I bought a calsci-wide shield in the large size. I liked it but felt I wanted more wind protection, as I o long distant touring, so I bought the XL size and love it. BTW my large is now for sale, has less than 500 miles on it, $175 shipped. FYI I'm 5'11" inseam 32 and instill look over the xl screen by a few inches in the full upright position.
