Do all Concours pull to the right?
« on: April 27, 2012, 01:42:15 PM »
Bought my Concours last week. Noticed a pull to the right when I let go of the handlebars. Tested riding on the crown of the road, even riding on the wrong side of the road.

Had an appointment at the dealership today. They said its ok and there is nothing that can be done about it. They also said shaft drive bikes in general have a pull to the right.

Is this normal?

Guys,

My C14 with 39k+ on it does not pull in either direction.
I can lock the throttle lock on a straight road and ride for miles with no hands on the
bars and do not notice it pulling in either direction.

However is not like I do this very often.

Nope.  I've owned 4 shaft driven bikes...they all pulled straight.  Your dealer isn't correct in their assessment.  Is this bike new and for goodness sake what year is it?

Please refer to this....

My '10 C14 definitely pulled to the right when it was new but doesn't do it any more. I don't recall when it stopped (didn't pay much attention to it). I've now got 7K miles now and running on a new set of PS3s. Perhaps it was the OEM tires?

You never said it was new, you could have bought a used one.

Well I assume if its bought new this year its a current year. Otherwise I would have stated I bought a used whatever year recently.
Hmm, wonder if it could be the oem tires as you stated. Maybe I just need to put more miles on them.

Bad assumption.  Some of these bikes can sit for several years and still be sold 'new'.  You could buy a 2011 or possibly a 2010, new.

Found an article on bmwsporttouring.com

engine, transmission, driveline, and final drive - it is clear that the weight is not centered left-right.  The inline engine lying on its side has the crankshaft located right of the centerline of the chassis.  The transmission is also weight biased to the right.  And, obviously the bulk of the swingarm, the driveshaft, and the final drive or rear end unit are located right of the center line of the chassis.

If you were to attempt to balance a K bike on its tires on a perfectly flat surface in a zero wind enclosure, from an absolutely vertical position it would inevitably always fall over to the right.  So, when riding the bike, more often than not the weight bias to the right will cause the motorcycle to want to lean to the right.  This again makes it necessary to hold slight left steering pressure to go straight and added wear left-of-center on the front tire.

Well, MY K bike does not pull to the right.  Nor does my C10.

The K bike analysis is a mess...Roads are NOT flat, there is never "zero wind" when you are moving, the bike is not Left-Right symmetric, etc.

Sorry for contributing to the thread drift...I can't help you with the C14.

Bought my 09 brand new (at the end of 2010).

It never pulled right with the stockers and does not pull right with PR3s.

I would target the tires first though.

I've had my 2010 for 13months with 11000 miles and it goes straight, even with a worn front tire.

Mine pulled some when it was new and had the stock cr*pstones.  The PR2's and PR3's are both neutral.
