Matching bike/pannier/top box keys
« on: April 18, 2012, 01:18:35 PM »
Anyone know if the givi Z228 lock set can be used to rekey the saddlebags. Twistedthrottles site lists the locks as a direct replacement. My concours had no locks in the bags at when i got it.

Thanks,
Huero

They are different diameters, the GIVI cylinders are smaller. :(

It appears to me that they may be shorter as well. Although, i havent seen the oen cylinder ir barrel.
But, it just doesnt seem long enough. I contacted twisted throttle again this afternoon. They said, "it shoukd work fine.". So, either tgey are just wrong or i am slippin'.

Anyone have a picture if the lock cylinder?

Thanks,
Huero

I'm on the way out the door but I will shoot a couple pics and provide measurements tomorrow. I'm actually trying to go the other way and use a kawi cylinder in the givi so I can reduce the number of keys and spares I need.

Cheers!

Hi,

Is it possible to match the lock in the Givi case to the same key as the bike? That would be really nice.....

Thanks.

So the new 2015 C14 accessories include a monokey V47 box with a key that is matched to the bike.

http://www.kawasaki.com/Accessories/Item/ZG1400EFFL/999940528

Question - could that lock be put into an E55? Both are monokey....

The part numbers are different between the V47 and E55 according to Givi.ca but it might be because of other junk included in the lock set. I don't know locks.....

My dealer is ordering the key set for me. I also ordered my E55 through them so they'll install it for me. They think it will work but aren't 100% certain. No risk to me, and I'm really excited about having a single key! (if it works)

So the new 2015 47L case looks pretty awesome. Anybody have reason to doubt if it will fit on a 2012?

Its a standard monokey box and will fit any monokey rack....including phil's rack. Plus....check out the one key system. you can get it keyed to your bike.

That's why I'm interested. I love the one key idear. Was just reading another post about this idea and stumbled on the 2015 truck... I love how it looks and the one key thing sells it for me... Gonna get it methinks!

The main problem is that it is green- color matched to the 2015.

They do sell that black replacement part for the case in case you don't want the green. Always a plus!

Will the one key system retrofit to the 2008-2014 47l trunk ?. If the 2 trunks use the same lock assembly it should be doable !.

I don't know if it would fit the old one.....the old one is a monolock case. Not sure if the lock cylinder is different....might not be. I just hope that the new lock works in my E55 case. If so, Kawi is going to sell a lot of these lock kits!
