Hello? Is Connie home?
« on: March 07, 2012, 11:11:01 PM »
5 1/2 hours of trailering it from Northern Illinois to home (St Louis Metro area) and my "new to me" 2010 C14 is home and in my garage. I couldn't resist taking it for a spin around the block before I put it away. With only 4,100 miles on her, I've got to rack some miles up quickly. Needless to say I'm going to bed with perma-grin on my face tonight.

I would really like to thank Ron, Mary, Jason and Bob at Open Air Powersports in Sycamore, IL for a absolutely pleasant transaction. I just wish that I didn't live so far away to give these folks more of my business.

Owing a Concours, C-10 or C-14, you can take out a copy of the Rand McNally road atlas and see there is no point on the map of the continental USA that isn't a two day ride away. In your case, one day ;)

Congrats on your purchase, Spring isn't that far away :)

Congrats!

I told ya they were good people there. I'm going to be talking with Jason next week about getting my TPMS replaced under warranty.

Out of curiosity I checked google,
Van Buren, ME to San Diego, CA is 3274 miles (cutting through Canada) staying in the US is 3457 and
Key West, FL to Neah Bay, WA is 3,656 miles

WOW, that kind of riding is beyond my capabilities.

Maybe so, but isn't it nice to know it's not beyond your Connie's capabilities?     :)

So Fire....

I lived in Sycamore for a time long ago, was married there and now live in StL....small world, eh?

There are a couple of other C14 drives in the area I catch up with on occasion, and each of us are fairly handy and do most/all our own work on them. Feel free to holler with questions or to grab a ride together.

Welcome to the team.

Small world. I live in Fairview Heights, so I'm really close to downtown. I occasionally see a C14 running down 270. I would be up for a ride sometime. If I have any questions (and I'm sure I will) I will definately be asking. In fact, I'll start now - Who is a decent Kawi Dealer in the St Louis area in case I need any warranty work?

It's nice to know there are some C14 riders in my area.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris,

I've bought parts from the StL Powersports guys in Fenton, but not sure I want them to touch my bike. The J&W Cycles guys in Washington MO are a Kaw dealer and very friendly/approachable/seem to run a good shop. I had them do a front brake rotor replacement (under warrenty, only dealer work ever done on my bike after it left the showroom) and I'd use them again if needed. but they're a 100 mile round trip from Webster Groves, and further from you, so not the best arrangement. Surdyke in Festus is a Kaw dealer and may be an option, I just have no info good or bad on them.

What are you thinking you need done? You've got a ways to go before needing to check the valve lash....

Chris - There is also a private shop neaby...Cyclehouse Performance on Watson Road in Crestwood. I've had them mount tires when I was pressed for time or too lazy to mount them myself (removed the wheels and took them in). They look to have an organized shop and do a lot of work on the...what's the right term?..."street cycle" guys (performance mods for sport bikes).

Just another option, and you may have a shop like this in your area too.

I'm hoping that I actually don't need anything done, but just in case. There is a Kawi dealer in Fairview Heights, and another in Wood River. Those are about the closest ones for me. My office is at Reavis Barracks and 55, so St Louis Powersports is the closest, but I've heard horror stories. The other one is Big St Charles Motorsports, but I have really no desire to go back there after the issues I've had there with their sales people.
