When looking for additional rear brake lite I was ready to order one of these style liteheads also. I happened across a fellow LD rider who had the same unit and stood back while he applied the brakes. What I found, and he was already aware of, was that as long as you were directly inline with the litehead the effect was very good. But as soon as you started moving off center the effect started to diminish to the point of being no brighter than the standard bulbed taillite, especially in daylite, when the additional lite is more important to me.
That is actually extremely common with LED light fixtures. Sometimes directionality is a good thing, but many times LED's are just too directional and need a good "diffuser" to make the viewing angle better.
