The Farkling has begun
« on: February 17, 2012, 12:20:38 PM »
The first thing I had to buy was Phil's rack to complement the GIVI E55 Monokey trunk that I got with the bike. Phil is excellent to work with and very fast shipping. I forgot to tell Phil that the GIVI box has the light system with the quick connect contact. Phil called me immediately after I sent an email asking if he knew a way to mount the contact. He advised me not to drill a hole for it as the mount is to far back and goes into one of the ribs on the rack. I want to find a way to make this work so all suggestions are welcome. See pictures. If I can't make it work I think I need to go with the GIVI SR410 mount. Is there any other mounts to look at for the Monokey with the light kit?

Second thing I had to do is get rid of that enormous piece of plastic that holds the license plate. I have a friend that makes all sorts of accessories for motorcycles so I went over to his house to get the fender eliminator installed the other day. By the way, he and his two boys ride 2009 Connies. He also makes throttle locks but his would not work on the 2011 Connie because of the stock grip heaters. Again all suggestions welcome. I don't want to spend a bunch of money on cruise control either. I might just go with an O-ring like I did with my Buell. I will let you know how that works out.

Third thing was a Targa tank bra. I wrestled back and forth between the bra and Tech Spec and finally came to the conclusion that the bra gives the tank more protection.

Next on the list is to 86 the launcher. I have been researching pipes all morning. I have read through many of the comparison threads on here and I still have not made a decision between the Muzzy, Area P, or the Holeshot. (And no Jay I am not going with the duals, to much $) Any other good pipes I need to look at? What about the Yoshi? Do ZX14 pipes fit on the Connies with no mods?

I look forward to everybody's comments and suggestions.

Here's something to ponder over, get Jay to donate his stock header, gut the cats, get an AreaP and enjoy the new (all though not huge) performance and sound.  I would recomend a PCV and Autotune, I may have an extra bung if needed, but I'm pretty sure the AT comes with one.  Get the bung welded in when the pipe is being gutted.  If Jay is hanging onto to his header maybe we could work something out for mine, I'm only a few hours North of ya so it shouldnt be too difficult, besides, I want to show ya the vastly faster Neutron Silver bike ;D  BTW, I suggest the AT to help soothe your guilty conscience, keep the bike running clean, and not to mention the tuneability factors.  To spice things up a bit I would also suggest a yet to be tried (at least not on this forum) a shot of Nitrous, them black bikes need all the help they can get :o

Sounds like a good idea to me. I will talk this over with Jay when he calls next. I have talked to this guy more in the last week then I have in last 20 years.  :o

It's not the color of the bike or the color of the rider.   :loco:   It's all about the "Rider".   :chugbeer:

Check out this page for easy install. This is how I installed my E55 on Phil's rack. Was relatively easy, and works like a champ. Scroll down to the post and pics by armyguns.

That is what I was thinking about doing, but like I said Phil advises otherwise.

I don't like the idea of the trailer hitch plug so I think I am going to give this a try.

Armyguns says he is at 10,000 miles and still going. I'm sold.

Thanks for pointing me to the pics.

If it were me I would scrap the Givi kit and buy the Admore light kit and keep Phils rack.

That is a nice looking top box and congrats on the new ride.

It's not the color of the bike or the color of the rider.      It's all about the "Rider".

However, this kind of rational thought has no place on this forum    :)

Looking good!

I don't think the Targa and the Tech Specs really are comparable or serve the same purpose. The Tech Specs shine at giving your knees a place to hang on tight, which aids in stability, comfort and control. But I've never had a tank bra, so maybe I don't know what I'm talking about.

No one ever mentions the Two Brothers exhaust, but I just had the M5 installed and I like the sound, if maybe a little louder than I expected. It's different for sure. The black carbon looks great.

LivnLoud, If you want to hear the 2Bros duals on a C14 w/ ZX-14 header, let me know.  I love the sound of mine, and I'm here in PDX.

Update on Phil's rack. I am so happy I got this rack to work.

Tools needed.
     1. Drill press
     2. Die grinder
     3. Sharpie
     4. Three zip ties

And the O-ring for my throttle lock is going to work for the time being.

Let's hook up I would love to see and hear yours.

All we need are some dry roads, which should be in what, July?   ::)   Actually I did a 130 mile ride last weekend, and managed to just out run the rain drops.

I'll be tearing mine down (hopefully soon), to do some pre-season maintenance, and it will be down for weeks.  I'm coming up on 23K miles, so I need to do the valves, TB sync, put on new tires, lube the shaft, flush the brakes, install the new battery, install the new driving lights, etc, etc, etc.  Hmm, maybe it will be down for a couple months, given the lack of free time I seem to have.

Well, at the first opportunity, I'm there!

Only a 20% chance of rain tomorrow. We may be able to meet in the middle if you have time.

Sorry, I was on the mountain Sunday (turned into Monday too, unplanned).

Maybe next Saturday if the weather cooperates?  I'll probably be back in the mountains next Sunday.

If there's a dry couple of days during the week, I could ride to work.  It's right off 26, at Bethany.  Perhaps meet for lunch?

That would work out great, my work is the next exit west. I would like to try out the new brew pub on the next dry day.

I've been in there in the evening, it's a very nice place, and the food was great too.  Looks like tomorrow is dry, and the showers should be done for today, so let's plan on lunch there tomorrow.

Any chance we can drag Jay along?  How about it ZG, can you bring your black beauty out for lunch tomorrow?
