I have a four pin trailer harness on my bike that I use to power my Givi lights.  I love the fact that if I have problems I can stop at any auto parts store to fix it.

Correct. Trailers generally don't have running lights. They have Left, Right, Brake and Ground.

A trailer wired for traditional US made cars/trucks actually has taillight circuit, a return (ground) and a left and right turn signal circuit that is also is used as a brake circuit. To use a 4 wire set up would require a multiplexer in the circuit because of the separate brake circuit on a bike.

Usually can find a small round 5 wire connector at RV dealerships.
