Side case (bag) painting
« on: November 16, 2011, 07:49:17 PM »
My bags have some ugly scratches on them (one from me dropping it and the other from the bike blowing over in a storm) I saw a post where another used bed liner spray to fix his bags that were scratched and it looked good. I was thinking of painting the entire painted side of the bag with it. I was also going to paint them back to origional color, but sure i will screw that up. Any one have pic of black bags on the bike vs. the painted matching ones. my bike is an 08 silver.

Here's some pics from another thread of what it would look like on a green one, tank and fender also done in black, should give you a general sense...

I should have my bike back tomorrow and I will post some pics up.

@ZG:  That patchwork paint job looks pretty good IMO.  Maybe it is just the cheapskate in me saying that.   ;D

Maybe someone with some skill could change the green to neutron grey on the second pic.

D***!  That bike looks good.  Might even be faster than Neutron Silver.  I especially like the black cases.

Here's a quick mock up.... I changed the green to Neutron Silver & left the bags, tank, lowers & fender black.

It could pass for a cop bike.  I like it though.

The Kawi green has more pizazz but the cases look good in black on the 08 bike.  Is the tank black on purpose?  Now the exhaust has got to be black as well.

You actually changed it to just silver silver (Neutron Silver is really silvery baby-blue).  Anyway, in that pic, the black luggage doesn't look bad at all.  Maybe it is being balanced by the black tank and fender (which would normally not be black).

Actually I pulled the color directly from a pic of a 2008 c-14 (for the two-tone one).... I believe that is the neutron silver. The other is a more basic gray & is not neutron silver.

I still want one this color (Moondust 2009 UK color). I might just get a 2011 silver one and change all the black parts to moondust.  ::) 8)

I wonder what that might look like ....... (hint, hint)   ;)

It's not that hard to paint something as simple as a saddle bag cover. You take your old piece to an automotive paint store, they scan it and the computer generates a formula for the shop to mix paint which will be a perfect match. I have done this with cars and bikes and the results were perfect. I have used Ditzler and Car Craft and the employees at both worked diligently to achieve perfect color matches and also to explain to me exctly how to proceed with surface prep, mixing and application. For small jobs like this  I used the Pre Val Sprayer http://www.preval.com/what-is-preval which works great. A compresser and spray gun are not required.
