euro hand guards (group buy) replacement plastic ??
« on: November 04, 2011, 04:28:54 AM »
hello, i purchased the group buy dark smoke for my 09, anyways i need to get a replacement dark smoke piece for the right side. i think they are both the same, so a pair is fine also. is there a source or anyone that could assist in this ?? the other is in tact so could a local company use it for a template?? what questions could i ask them to see if they are capable of making a duplicate??

thanks much for the time,
Joel

You're talking about the Motax air deflectors right? I'd just take the plastic piece that you have left (what happened to the other one?) into a glass shop and ask them if they could make a dupe for you out of plexy or lexan or whatever.

If it were me, I'd just make one myself.

I agree.... If you have access to a heat gun, jig saw or scroll saw and some sand paper, I would just make my own.  only take about 30 minutes.

I would be happy to take a peek and see if I can match it if you want to ship one to me, no cost but the shipping. Shoot me a PM if interested.

If it is the Motax ones, there are no bends in the plastic, it's just flat.  The hardest part would be matching the color.  You might be better off replacing both to get a good color match.

Go to the local plastic supply place, and ask to see their Lexan or Polycarbonate color selection.  Then it's just a matter of tracing the pattern of the old one on the paper that covers the plastic, cutting it out, drilling the mounting holes, and sanding the edges.

They could probably do all that for you, but they will likely charge you a premium for it.  Sounds like Flathead has the best offer you could ask for, if you don't want to tackle it yourself.

Yep, it's Motax. I'd go with Flathead's offer and ask him to make two.
