The power of prayer cures TPS

Just kidding. It was actually the "Mad Powah of KiPass"!
Last winter I bought TPS batteries (and a new soldering iron and some heat sink doodads) planning to replace my troublesome TPS batteries. The low batttery warning were more and more frquent last winter and with help from the forum I was convinced I could do it. But Global WArning caught up with me before I needed a tire and the warning was no longer there. Being the kind of guy that needs instant gratification when I go to the trouble to fix stuff with high tech tools like a soldering iron, I decided to wait for cold weather. No fun fixing something that is working.

So, Thursday I ride out to Wichita for a long Halloween weekend with Gabrielle (see Avatar) 55, 49, 45, 38 degrees F were the morning ride temps and never a low temp warning. I am hereby declaring my original TPS batteries healed after 5 full years of service and 62,000 miles. Obviously, the mighty and ever watchfull Kipass figured out what I was up to with my evil tools and tipped off the TPS units: clean up your act of face amateur surgery.

With the cooler weather as of late (2 weeks or so), my TPMS has been showing the low battery warning again, front and rear. The warning clears after ~ 10-15 mins of riding. I don't have a new soldering iron but I do have one and new batteries too. Maybe I need to show them to the bike so that it gets it's act together before drastic measurers are called for?

I e-mailed my dealer's technician and told him what was up with my TPMS and he said to bring the bike in and he'll replace the sensors under warranty. If only I needed new tars...

For whatever this is worth- if you have the TPS sensors replaced under warranty you will get the latest type. They have been superceded two times now so everyone gets the third generation sensors. Not sure what that is really worth though and I have no idea if the 'low battery warning when it is cold' issue has been addressed or not.

Seriously, I don't remember clicking female, I think one of the mods is playing a joke.

No guarantees but the Japanese mfg.'s are very good about dumping obsolete parts and replacing them with the current version all the way through distribution. Of course a dealer may have an old part on the shelf but that is doubtful in the case of these sensors because they are expensive and almost all of them have been warranty replacements. I think you will get the current ones. Of course that may not mean much depending on what LDL changed in the sensors to begin with.

That's true Brian, I'm sure that they wouldn't do that to me anyways. Both the head tech and the manager ride C14s. I'll let ya'll know.

I don't think so....  We don't have access to profiles except to look, same as you.  It's easy enough to change it yourself, you know.  A quick trip to Sweden and you're done.

The front sending unit on my 09 was replaced a few months back. On a recent trip to Utah and Colorado on a couple of mornings in the low 30's I got the LOW BATTERY message for the rear sensor only, so maybe the one they put in the front was the newer type.

No but I have an excellent route across the US that you can use to warm up if you want.... it only takes two days.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm just going to use the low battery warning as a tire temperature indicator.  When the annoying blinking goes away, my tires are up to temp and I'm free to go nuts!

If your bike is still under warranty (original warranty or extended warranty) the dealer should replace the TPS sensors due to that low temp. 'low battery' fault.
