Does kawasaki still transfer warranty over to new owner?
« on: August 15, 2024, 06:49:22 PM »
I have found a 2022 used I want to look at but wondering if warranty will transfer over still? It’s at a dealer who said it would not. I had an 09 I sold and we transferred warranty no problem but that was about 12 years ago. Found a few posts from 7/8 years that did same but any recent issues? I wanted to get extended warranty if so is why I am asking since it used to be no problem as long as it had an existing one. Thanks

I'm not a resident of USA but I believe the new warranty stays with the bike whoever owns it subsequently.

I have not heard anything about a change in policy, at least from postings on the forum.  My understanding is that the Kawasaki warranties (factory original AND factory extended) follow whatever owner.  I think that dealer is wrong, unless he is talking about some third-party extended warranty.

The base warranty and Kawasaki Protection Plus extended coverage is transferable at no cost to you.

Your local dealer can transfer the factory warranty and Kawasaki Protection Plus on their Kawasaki computer system.

The new owner can “Update Customer Info” to notify KMC of the change in ownership. New owners are required to submit a copy of the product’s state registration or a bill of sale before our records can be updated. The paperwork can be uploaded electronically, faxed or sent via USPS. Once we receive the paperwork, KMC can transfer the remaining factory warranty or Kawasaki Protection Plus into the new owner’s name.

I appreciate the answers. I was hoping it would still follow. Been awhile since i have bought something that was new enough to have a warranty to begin with. Everything I own currently is from the early 70s except for my 25 year old Honda. Time for something newer. Thanks

I just bought a 2022 about 2 weeks ago. I  asked my local dealer, (not where I bought it), who said my warranty is good til next April. There was no mention of transferring ownership.

The warranty is on the bike, not the person.  There is no actual need to "transfer ownership", it is just a way for Kawasaki to keep tabs on the owner and contact him if there are recalls/etc.

Now, it might be necessary to "transfer ownership" when/if the owner wants to purchase an additional extended warranty.  You should ALWAYS buy the factory extended warranty and then extend it again.  The original 3 year warranty can be extended twice (for a total of 9 years of warranty coverage).  It is a fantastic deal...
