Painting the Lower Fairing/Engine Cover
« on: June 22, 2011, 02:09:37 PM »
I have been toying with doing this ever since I got the bike but trouble is I've been too busy riding to do it.  Has anyone ever painted the flat black lower fairing to match the rest of the fairings?  If so I'd really like to see a picture, don't care what color your bike is!

Thanks All

I pondered this but felt it was designed to take rock chips w/o an issue that paint would have.

+1 on the paint getting chipped.  I'm almost at 20K miles and the lower faring is a bit chingered up.  If I had taken the time to paint it, I might be a little mad   >:(

Well I think I'm going to give it a shot.... Also had the idea of painting the piece that the rear turn signals sit in to match but I'll save that idea for now.  Going to probably tackle it tomorrow unless I get anxious in the next few minutes.

I'll have pics before long.... already got the basecoat on!  ;D

As for the fear of it chipping... the pieces are already painted so it really shouldn't wear much different provided it is painted correctly.

Right now?  ;)

It's a black 2009.

Having said that, I painted my last bike about once every six months after waiting two years to paint it the first time, so we will see down the road where it goes!

I bet that bed-liner spray would work very nicely, would be tough as nails too. Hopefully you have a fender extender, if not you better get one. ;)

Someone already did this and had pics on the old site.  When I laid mine down, I remembered that and told them not to replace the flat black peice, I would just bed-liner it.  The service manager thought that was brilliant!
