Should I Ball Peen my Dyno Jet PC III
« on: April 15, 2015, 03:25:18 PM »
I have an 08 C14 with Slip on and aftermarket air cleaner. Finally pulled my flies and runs like a new much faster bike with no drivability issues.
I had bought a PC III USB off ebay last year so I thought I would install that.
I got the PC for really cheap but the seller never answered my question on his map install.
With My better halfs help installing the PC software ,I down loaded a flies out ,slip on for my 08. I put it in and started ,sounded different so I was encouraged that it was working.
I took it out for a test drive. It ran like one sic puppy ,no zip and felt like it was stumbling or missing. Came home and worried that I did something wrong like accidently unpluged a connector or something.
It was late so next day pulled the PC off and took for a spin , Wow ran great again.
Today I powered it up with 9 volt to see if I made a mistake on the map. No ,it was the right one .
Bad PC III ????

check to make sure the ground is beyond solid.  and if you're grounding to the water bottle bolt like the instructions suggest, it'll never run right.

Hi
I called dyno jet and ask about the ground. The guy said if it was a bad ground ,it wouldnt even light up. I watched a you tube vid of a guy installing a PC on his ZX 14
He grounded it on the engine after pulling a screw out so thats where I did as well.
All the stuff on the forum seemed that they either work or dont. I could be wrong.
Thanks for the tip thou.

Oh it'll light up....and have intermittent problems as the bikes idles or shakes etc

that kind of customer support is why i do business with their competitors.  the instructions said on my PCIII to ground to the water bottle bolt.  and the PCIII lit up, and the bike ran too....  LIKE PURE HELL. called support and they told me mount it there and if it lights up ground isn't an issue.

After removing it from the bike I was told by a friend (who been through it) move the ground. I did. And it worked fine after and the birds sang and and the sun was shining and all.

I'm not an expert but if the the cat and stock headers are still intact I'm not sure I'd worry about a fuel controller.

I have the stock headers, not sure about cat. Didnt think those were on the 08.
Not worried about it but since I already own it , I would want to use it to see if it helps any at all.
Thanks

+1

If you have disabled or pulled the secondary butterflies, that is you main thing right there.  With the stock headers and exhaust section and throttle bodies (all of which are stock on yours), there isn't much to be gained with a PC.  Based on what I have read, I doubt you would even notice any difference.  Ask yourself if it is worth the time/effort/frustration (unless you plan on doing some other mods now or later).

I have a '09, no flies, TwoBros., K&N air filter, stock headers.
I bought the TwoBros. fuel controller and tried every setting, all it did was burn more gas, runs best with it off.

Unless you stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, of course.

Unless you bought a used 08 and someone went in and actually removed the cats, you have a cat.  All the C14 models have cats.

And from other threads, I believe the conclusion was that removing the cats from the stock pipes is another waste of time that doesn't improve performance.

Keep in mind that with the secondaries out the throttle will be more fun and gas mileage is directly proportional to the amount of fun you'll be having.

I remember a couple of years ago people screaming that, if flies out, a PC was a must. Many were asking for somebody to play guinea pig and do the flysectomy while not installing the PC, and reporting results.
Now it seems like people think that the PC is no longer needed, but I missed the source of that change. Didn't I?  ???
I don't mean to be rude but I spent a bit of money on that PC5, so please could somebody tell me why I don't need it? The only reason I bought it was because of the flysectomy.

^^^ before you say that and toss, may want to try the 004 map from power commander, or even ask them if there is a better one for "no flies", slip-on, standard air breather. may be worth the 15 minutes work.

Oh the pitfalls of being an early adopter. Did you have any conflicts with the EU bike O2 sensors and the PC5?

Ah, the changing of the winds Martin. One time you look out and all the tall wheat is bending to the left 'cause the wind is coming from the right. Another time, the wheat is bending to the right. So goes the classic "We all know....". :-)  The Internet makes this whole cycle faster so urban legends can be born and grow into a full scale frenzy in a matter of months.

I have never seen the results of either a dyno test on a C-14 using the stock ECU and [no Power Comander], or even better, a real-time data log of a C-14 being ridden in the same condition. So I have no knowledge of how rich / lean they run after nothing more than removing the 'flies.

There are some folks out there with PC V's and auto tune modules, and I would think they would have a map of how much change is currently being used on their bikes. Anybody want to jump in and tell us? How about Rembrant- he has that ECU flashing kit that collects data also..... So Cory, does removing the 'flies really require a significant enriching of the mixture?

Call me skeptical- this all started back in '07 and has not become any more clear yet. Unless Cory happens to know what his fuel offset table looks like (I think he does), reads this thread (maybe) and lets us all know (he will if he can).
