Plug and play trailer harness.
« on: July 01, 2014, 08:07:18 PM »
So I asked awhile back if anyone made a harness for a trailer that was a plug and play system so I did not have to cut into my factory wiring. http://www.zggtr.org/index.php?topic=16858.0
With the help of Man of Blues and clogan I got something put together that's working out great.
I went round and round with myself, Man of Blues was all about keeping it a 5 wire on bike and trailer. I liked the idea of more light but the trailer I have just didn't work out right adding more lights. I could not come up with anything I liked, adding another set of lights or even some LED strips. Just didn't do it for me.
But clogan posted a pigtail system that Admore light makes. http://admorelighting.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&path=62&product_id=137 For the price I said what the heck I'll get it and see what I could do with it.
So with that pigtail system in hand I stopped by autozone and picked up a 5 wire to 4 wire converter http://www.autozone.com/autozone/parts/Hopkins-Trailer-Tail-Light-Converter/_/N-a8pa0Z1z13xug?itemIdentifier=866682_534332_0_
I was actually there trying to find some extra lights that I could make work for the 5 wire system but I ran out of options and that's when I seen the converter.
So I wired the converter to the Admore pigtail system to get this.

Got it all wired up into the bike nice as can be. No cutting of the factory wires and easy to remove if I ever need to.

Wired up new LED lights to the trailer too and it all works great.

cool!!
How did you like fitting up that Bushtec hitch??
sucked didn't it?
That appears to be a monster sized trailer, got a shot from the side with it attached to the bike?
Jus be careful and don't over load it, or make it tongue heavy... you don't want more than 25-30 lbs up there....
My H/F trailer with about 180 lb contents (distributed rearwards over the axle) gives me about 15# on the tongue, and hauls beautifully...It was nice to actually remove the side bags and stow them for the ride to the national, I had really good rear view in the mirrors to see the trailer and keep an eye on it.

That hitch is a huge POS.. I think a blind man with one arm could have built that better.

The trailer empty weighs in at 110# with 15#'s on the tongue.
