Corbin heated seat question

A week ago I ordered my heated Corbin and was told that it would take 3 weeks to make it and another week to ship it here. (BC). Well, it arrived today and I installed it immediately! This is my third Corbin, first one was on my 1987 C10, second one on my Harley Road King, and now this one on my 2011 C14. With only a short ride I can tell this has been another great decision, just a very comfy seat! The question I have for the others who have a heated Corbin is, should the seat switch automatically turn off when the bike is shut down? When I shut off the engine and get off the bike I noticed that the seat switch was still on. Obviously, this can't be good for the battery. I'm wondering if this is normal.

To be honest, I don't remember if the seat would have or not. I didn't particularly like the Corbin set up of plugging into the fuse and using a little rain coat. So I cut my connector off and wired it to an accessory fuse block that was switched off the ignition.
 But IIRC, Corbin wanted it plugged into the accessory fuse, which is switched! But I did love that seat! especially on cold wet days!

That would depend on how you wired it....
(Same with the Sargent heated seat, heated clothing, etc).  My advice is to wire it to an ignition-controlled power source.  If that source can't handle the current, then you will have to use it to drive a relay and pull the main power for the seat from the battery through a fused lead.  Otherwise, you *WILL* be stranded by a dead battery one day and will be very unhappy.

I agree with Max, it depends how you wired it. If the light on the heat switch is staying on after you turn the bike off then the seat "is" still on, you need to be sure and turn it off when you get off the bike. Once you do it for a bit it becomes second nature IMO, this is also how I have mine wired because I have other electronics wired into the front of the bike and didn't want to overload and get wire messy etc...

If you don't have heat, are there the little oval concho looking things there where the switches are?

Bumping this thread because I have a question.

I installed the Corbin just like it says in the installation instructions. I too find that the seat's heat switch is always powered, thus the seat can be heated even with the ignition off. This is a bad thing as it's a potential battery drain.

Is it possible that turning the fused connector around (wire pointing left rather than right) would fix this problem and make it into a switched power connection?

All, I too have the Corbin heated seats...like others have said, if you wire directly to the battery, the seats will stay on all the time, and never shut off, or until your battery is dead.  It should be wired into an auxiliary switched circuit, like the one in the tail of the bike, or into the switched side of a Fuzeblock or other similar device.  Also, just so everyone is aware, these seats get pretty hot, and my wife and I find we are turning them on and off pretty periodically.  I emailed Corbin and they have no suggestion for a fix....may look into trying to wire up the new digital Sargent Chili controller somehow.  Haven't had time to look into it any further.

Where can you pick up just a controller and adjustment knob? Seems Sargent only sells it as part of a vest or heated seat.

They evidently have this new digital controller that looks pretty good.  I haven't gotten a chance to call them to see if I can get just the controller.

Directly from them.  I am sure they sell it separately.  It was a separate item number and line item cost on my receipt (WAC-HK-CONTR-01 $85).  Just call them or EMail them.

Ok, all I just called Sargent.  Unfortunately, they are a little delayed in their cycle and the Sargent Digital Heat controller shown at the link below, will not be available until around the 2nd week in January.  They posted the info a little too early on their site according to the gentleman I spoke with.  However, the cost should be $85.00 which includes the wiring harness.  Hope this helps.

I mounted it on the left side of that black plastic trim on the top of the tank so it is easy to see the light and access the control.   very little wire showing.  I did NOT attempt to remove the tank, so I ran the wires from the back of the bike to the front through a crack around the tank, then behind the fairings and up through the open space around the steering.  Affixed the small controller using the included industrial velcro.

When they shipped my seat earlier this year, they had also had supply/demand problems back then, too.  I didn't get the controller until about 2 weeks later (and they didn't charge me for it until it shipped).  It was late Spring, so it didn't matter much to me at the time.

WOW!  I just looked at your link- that is TOTALLY different from the one I got.  That is REALLY nice looking!  I love the up/down buttons!  I love my existing controller, but that new one is MUCH better, still!
