Rear diff fluid

Ok, I had the rear diff fluid leak on my 09, they fixed it, now on my 12 I'm getting rear diff leaking on it also at 3500 miles. What's up with that >:(
Is this a recurring problem on these bikes?

Is this a recurring problem on these bikes?

Are you positive it is really leaking and not just that it was overfilled?  No, I don't think it is a common issue.

I don't know if I'd call it common or not, but the C14 rear diff seals do seem to fail from time to time. The outer diff seal, and by outer I mean the seal on the LH side of the final drive, failed on my 08 C14. It sure does make a mess of the rear wheel and surrounding area.
That outer seal isn't all that easy to change, but it you have warranty still, then it's a non-issue.

What sometimes looks like a final drive leak is if somebody uses regular old wheel bearing grease to lube the drive splines when installing the rear wheel. If too much is used, it gets hot and will run and 'fling' a bit on the rear wheel. Looks like crap.

Thinking this is the case on my bike (dealer was last to have the wheel off). I was worried I was losing fluid (due to the amount of schmootz on my wheel), but the rear drive is full (if not a bit too full, high in the threads on center stand). I need to do a drain and fill it soon.

Is there any "bad" about using normal grease on the splines (other than the aforementioned warm ooze)? Seems maybe it will need re-greasing more frequent due to the loss from warming?
