Wider rear rack...

I've got a Motofizz medium camping bag that I need to mount on my rear rack (phils).  I usually mount it with the long side in line with the bike,  but I'm taking my son to Newfoundland this summer and the bag will need to be stowed across the rack.

I've thought about getting some aluminum stock and mounting that on the Phil rack so the motofizz bag is fully supported.

I have a givi topcase but it doesn't hold as much as the motofizz.

And, yes I'm aware that I am maxing out the weight on the rear rack.

Contact Phil and ask him if he'll make you a custom rack. He made me a custom rack that would work with my smuggler trunk and it's awesome!!

For camping I use a duffle bag and I put a thin board inside the bottom.  Like 1/8 inch plywood maybe 14inches by 20 inches... Or whatever size bag you have.  I then pack all my stuff on top of the board and strap it on the rack. The board will support the shape of the bag and keep it from sagging.  I can fit a lot into it.  Cost: about $2.  No bolts or permanent attachments needed.  Works great and looks great... All you see is the bag.

...I'm taking my son to Newfoundland this summer.

Awesome. I travel to Newfoundland with work quite often. I'm planning on taking my wife over this year to see the icebergs depending on what the season is like. If you have time and like to hike, spend a couple days in Gros Morne...it really is amazing. Oh...and be very careful of the moose....they will come out in the road in front of you, often times very quickly. By the way, the sign below read "24" when I went back by it the day after.
