Topcase questions. Educate me please.
« on: January 04, 2014, 04:58:19 PM »
I have a Givi 46l case that's leftover from my Sprint.  I just bought a Phil's topcase rack with the SW-Motech mounts.  When I tried to mount the case on the new rack, I found that the latch mechanism got broken from the crash that totaled the Sprint.

My question is:  Are the mounts for all topcases the same or are they different for each manufacturer?  With this new rack and the SWM mounts, will this only work for the Givi or will any case mount right up?

Why don't you contact GIVI USA and see if you can get repair parts.  Not sure if you can access that area after assembly, but worth looking into.

The JCWhitney large trunk is definitely a knock off of an early Givi Trunk.  Had one on my KLR.  Just add some weatherstripping and it is waterproof.

I think JCW probably gets their trunks from whoever has the best price and the Mfgr. may vary. Sometimes they will fit the mounting kit and other times they may need some "tweeking" to fit properly.

Thanks guys.  I'm just going to stick with Givi for for now and look for a used deal.  With the weather the way it is right now, the roads are frozen on the roads in my neighborhood so I haven't been able to get the bike out more than twice in the last month anyway.  If I can't find a used deal by March, I have a birthday coming up that month... :)  I'll have the wife fix me up with a new one.  I'm thinking V47NT.

I had a Givi with latch problems.  I called them and explained their latch broke.  The guys sent me about half a dozen parts within a week.
