Exhaust mod ...
« on: November 14, 2013, 05:50:09 PM »
Brock is having a sale on all Hindle pipes.. He had listed exhaust for the gen 1 zx14 .. I figured what the hell it might fit ( I was told it would not fit ) ... Well it fit great , I only had to do two little mods to make it fit .. Shim the lower rad bracket out and 1/8 of an inch and make a small bracket for the muffler hanger .. The extra power was much welcome .. It wheelies at will in first gear with a snap of the throttle and bang shift second it sets the tire on fire .. It's not loud at all , very deep tone but not loud .. I'm sure it knocked off a good bit of weight over the stock exhaust also ..

;D  I could not believe how small the factory header was compared to a stock ZX14R .. Looks like it should have come on a 600  and not a 1400 ... :o

How much louder than stock is it, when you are cruising? I like to listen to my tunes via blutooth and don't want to have the music drowned out by the exhaust.
I also agree with comment about the header pipes- they are about the same size as the pipes on my '80 GS 550e.

Not loud at all , very very deep tone on power , on cruising hardly any sound at all ..

pipe size ...  :o

Wow- quite a diameter AND layout difference (of course the layout difference will be the 4 into 2  for ZX dual exhaust instead of the 4 into 2 into 1 for the C14 single exhaust).  Thanks for sharing that photo.

What did you do for a fuel map? PCV?
So we now have several sources for an improved header. Muzzy, AreaP, Hindle and ZX14?
It would be nice to hear a few of these side by side or ride together at the Nationals.  ;D
If you still have fuel in the tank, you are not lost yet
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle

Working on a P/C and mapping soon ..I may work with Don Guhl on this and have him do a fuel tune with the ECU  and skip the P/C  ..

Well seeing that i'm a racer and do lots of testing for aftermarket company's ,  I will do it just like I do all my testing .. I have base lined the bike totally stock at the track , now I will return to the track with just the pipe and NO tuning and see what we get .. Next will be a tune either by P/C or ECU ( maybe both ) and see what we get .. Some dyno time will also need to take place to back up the track numbers .. Once all that has happened I will need to do some street riding to make sure the mapping or ECU tune is spot on for a smooth riding bike..
I know most of you guys are not looking for a drag bike, but I know you do want extra useable power on the street ..( don't we all ? )  :)

Ok I got some weights for the stock exhaust Vs the Hindle pipe ... stock 32 pounds , hindle 8 pounds .. So there is a 24 pound weight savings ..   :)
