Back rest for wife
« on: August 30, 2013, 11:39:20 PM »
My wife feels a bit unsafe riding on the back of my new C14 .. I also feel it's not safe for her .. I don't want to have to warn her when I feel the need to whack the throttle open ..Last thing I need to drop my wife in the middle of the road ..What would be the best ( strongest ) Back rest on the market ? Keep in mind while I'm only 150 pounds my wife is not ..Best way I can put it without getting into trouble .. :-[

Sorry if this has been posted and asked before and I'm sure it has  ..If so please aim me to the post ..
  Thanks Lee..

I have the large Corbin back rest with my heated driver and passenger seat.
This Advanced Sports Touring passenger back rest is a new product that AST just listed
I like the easy on/off concept

I went with this (it wasn't that expensive when I bought it, seems they changed the rack a bit)

Yup I have the same one too. Works great. You can adjust it forward and back for more custom fit. Better hurry tho...they are going out of business.

Just be careful when accelerating if your passenger weighs more than you. I'm 245, my wife is 135 and it's tough keeping the front tire down when accelerating hard with her on the back. :chugbeer:

I was looking for a backrest at my daughter's request for a little security when she is with me.  I was looking hard at http://pirateslair.net/ConcoursStealth.htm, but ended up getting a one of a kind from the COG classifieds.  I think is http://www.philsfarkels.com/ rack with a home built bracket & nice rest.  I'll throw on a picture later if you are interested.

I went with the Pirate's Lair and also bought their helmet bag which has a built in sleeve which slides over the backrest and snaps into place with a couple of straps so its on/off in seconds. It's not much use as a helmet bag unless you have a very small head, but great for packing extra gear. Most of my riding is solo so I usually reverse it so it sits were the passenger would normally sit. Both the rest and the bag are well built, but a bit pricey $375.00 for the rest and aluminum rack and $185.00 for the universal helmet bag.

Lee: Look on www.mutazu.com at their DB trunk w/backrest, spoiler and LED lights. Stylish and the whole thing will cost less than just a backrest from elsewhere. Lew

Here is what I have....

I did have to strip the peeling powder coating, and re-painted it.   Just rattle can flat black with matte clear coat.  Of coarse someone scratched the corner of it already, but I can fix that.

I went with AST rack and back rest. I see they have a new version of their back rest, which doesn't require the rack anymore.

Here's the one I used. The backrest has been used on this board many times, and it is made for a Suzuki Bergman.

My GF wasn't happy either. No way to use the grab rails on this bike. I got the AST rack/Backrest combo. Very solid.
also
added the AST Passenger Peg lowering kit. With this combo she's very happy now.
