Evolution of the 14 ???
« on: August 29, 2013, 11:09:40 PM »
So, I am shopping for a new, used sport tourer.  The FJR's seem to have a history of cracking their sub-frames and the ST's seem to come with something called a "Pan Weave", which, for all the world, sounds just like a 110mph speed wobble.  After a 4 year hiatus in the world of the ZG12, I think this will put me back in the world of the ZG14.

I have been watching the 14 from the sidelines for the past 4 or 5 years, but my more recent research is turning up some things I was not aware of.  Does the ECU on the 2010 really limit the bike to 154mph?  Do they come with cruise control?  What's the story on heated grips, option or standard?

There used to be a pretty good thread on the evolution of the C10.  Is there one  for the 14 yet?

Newer C-14s comes with heated grips and it seems perhaps the 2014 will include cruise control.  There are built in limits to the C-14 engine not found in the ZX-14, but there are fixes to get the Connie's performance closer to the ZX.  Do you really need a bike that will go over 155?

Doesn't appear now that the '14 C14 will have cruise...

The 1st generations of C14s (2008/2009) were not speed limited by the ECU to 154 like the 2nd generation (2010 and up) are. No factory cruise on any generation (WTF is up with Kawasaki on this anyways? It makes NO sense!). Current models come standard with heated grips.

The Pan Weave is a hit or miss depending on many variables... tires, shield, topbox, suspension... riders interpretation.  Do a Google search of "high speed wobble motorcycle"... it's the Pan Weave on other motorcycles.  I never had an issue with mine in triple digits, w/ topbox on, 42psi in tires, and suspension cranked up.

Now, would I own another ST1300 after owning a C14?  It would have to be dirt cheap.  The C14 is so more superior in so many ways... and at such a reasonable price.  8)

Does it matter?  And if so, why?

it seems perhaps the 2014 will include cruise control.

There is no "seems".  No expectation of such.  No news of such.  No rumors of such.  It is extremely unlikely the Concours will have cruise control until it is revamped with throttle by wire.  The 2014 is likely exactly identical to the 2013/12/11/10, which just different color options.

I don't know.  How about, if the situation ever presents itself, I don't want to be outrun by an R6 because someone put a governor on the motor.

You have been "watching" for 4 or 5 years and don't know these?  I've heard, things

Been there, read that.

I think I'll be looking for an '09.  Nothing against the '08's except that asphalt camo color.

Do Power Commanders override the ECU governor?

In 2010 the fairing was reshaped, moving the mirrors higher and routing engine heat better.
If you really want to wake up the motor send the ecu to Guhl for a reflash.

Still don't see it on the US site, despite what's in the other thread... but it's a decent bet that the US will be the same as the Canadian variant (maybe a color swap).
