There have been a few posts lately asking about the need for forward/back adjustment of a trunk to better fit the passenger. Of all the racks I've sold, probably 99.5% of the users have liked the location of the trunk and it apparently fits most passengers. Any trunk that mounts with a universal mounting plate can be positioned anywhere within the lengths of the slots in my rack using T-nuts that are quick and easy to re-adjust. For the small percentage that want to move the rack forward or back, I make sets of rails that allow placement of the trunk to be customized in .450" increments. The rails, shown below, can be reversed to give a wide range of positions both to the front & rear of the stock location. The rails attach with the stock hardware and I include new stainless steel screws and "hat" washers so the rack looks stock except for the added 1/2" height.
Another question that come up often is about backrests, with & without a trunk. It isn't easy to fit a backrest given the gap between the stock rack location and the seat requiring a long bar to span the gap. Pirates-Lair,
http://pirateslair.net/ConcoursStealth.htm, offers a very nice rack/backrest combination that keeps the bar short, but it positions the rack too far forward to comfortably fit a trunk, except for single riders. His racks have an enclosed channel welded to the bottom to completely support the backrest and a single bolt/knob to secure it.
If anyone wants to be able to use the Pirates-Lair rack/backrest, but occasionally mount a trunk, I have rails that move his rack back to the stock position where it's perfect for a trunk. To make it easier to mount a trunk, the Pirates-Lair racks now come spot-drilled on the bottom for the hole locations to install the SW-Motech kit that mounts a Givi monokey trunk directly to the rack.
Occasionally people come up with a totally unique requirement for rack placement and for those I can usually make the hardware to accommodate them.
