New to the scene.
« on: May 17, 2013, 08:47:28 AM »
Bought my brothers bike!

It's an 08 and only has 2100 miles on it.  Got a pretty good deal on it.  He never rode it often, bout once a week to the corner store which is about 6 miles from his house.  I always drooled everytime I came over and saw it sitting in his garage.  I've always ridden dual sport bikes, and owning a nice big sport tourer was always just kind of a fantasy of mine.

At first I was looking for one thinking we could ride together but he never has time, and made me a sweet deal on his so I pulled the trigger, the thing is freakin' flawless.  He's super anal about all of his stuff.  He has an 07 Corvette Z06 with like 8k on the odometer lol.  Never really understood the point of owning something you weren't gonna use.  But hey to each their own I guess.

Anyway I've been riding some the past few days and jesus is this thing fast.  Feels like I'm doing 60 and I look down and the needle is sitting on 100.  I took it in to the dealership to have the recalls done, but they said they were expired so, I guess I'll replace the bag latches on my own.  Anyway I'm loving this thing.  Everytime I get on it I giggle like a school girl and the smile doesn't come off my face till I go to sleep at night, even then I'm probably still smiling bc I'm dreaming about this beautiful machine.  SWMBO loves it also.

Got a great deal on insurance through geico.  All the max coverages and stuff and it was like 750 for the year.  I didn't think that was too bad.

Anyway I'm just a happy camper.
 :)

Welcome aboard! We all know that smile VERY well.   ;D

I've never heard of recalls expiring, especially safety recalls. What about the rear brake recall? I'd try another dealer if I were you, or maybe give Kawasaki corporate a call.  Don't talk to Mark though...    :o

Congrats and welcome to the forum! 2100 miles on a 5 or 6 year old bike is a crime. I hope you get to remedy that!

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Just got off the phone with Kawasaki Corporate and they informed me that the recalls do not expire.
Appreciate y'all for that.  I just took my dealership service manager's advice as true fact.

I'm going to take it to another dealership here in the area today.
Thanks again.

Congrats and welcome.  Since this bike is so much heavier than those dual sports, I suggest you practice U turns in an empty parking lot (assuming you know the proper technique)

Yeah, ZG is illustrating that your next purchase should be tip-over protection :)  Search the board for "Canyon Cages", for example...

Looks like you got a sweet deal!  ;)

Enjoy your new adventure!

If your driveway has a slope don't try to move your bike in flip-flops!  :o

When walking your noble steed backwards lean it against your right hip.  ;)

My daily routine has me pulling out of garage backwards in sandy conditions, FLA, for a tight 180 into launch position.  8)

For me, tip-over protection. Whatever.  ::). Don't drop it! No pressure!   :)

That kind of money gets you lots of fuel and a pair of new tires!  ;D

Now, go burn up about 500/600 miles of fuel in a day and decide what will make her comfy for 1000+ miles a day.   :D  :P

The surest way to never drop your bike is to install tip-over protection. This is a variant of Murphy's Law.   ;)
