Does mileage improve with Guhl reflash?
« on: April 30, 2013, 07:28:30 PM »
I have read contradictory reports on how the Guhl re-flash with a slip on effects gas mileage. Can anyone confirm their outcome?

Mileage should not change at all with a different muffler, regardless of flash or no flash.

If you are asking if the mileage, in general, changes with the flash, I can't answer that.  Since there is a general agreement that the C14 is run on the rich side, it stands to reason that it will probably get a tiny bit more mileage after the flash leans it out a tad.  I doubt it would be noticeable.

It is more likely people start having more "fun" on the bike, and thus the mileage drops :)  That is, until things return to "normal" again.

A properly tuned engine will always perform better.  The increase in torque as I have read will yield better economy when cruising, but twist the happy grip and the reverse is true.  Usuing my setup, full AreaP, PCV, Autotune, BMC filter, and ZX14 TBs (44mm vs 40mm per body) I get better economy when cruising than I did stock, and far worse when I am having fun, read, way far worse.

My mileage when down to 38 from 42. But I haven't done any long cruising with it yet and enjoying the improved throttle response. I am guessing that once I start more normal summer long distance rides I will be right back up to 42.

I'm confident Guhl did some major testing during the research phase of their reflash product, perhaps give 'em a ring

I would say it does give a good mpg boost. When I say boost, I mean when compared to the regular mode on my '11. I still get a mile or two better mpg in eco (on long trips).
